Men's Artistic Gymnastics
Hi, i am a 16 year old boy that has started gymnastics about 10 months ago (i have been doing bodyweight training for 2.5 years).
I really like ring gymnastics because im good at strength.
In uni (around 2.5 years away) I want to compete but i feel like i will only be able to compete in MAG and i have aweful co-ordination so i find it hard to do back/front tucks (ive been training the tucks for like 7 months and i cant do one yet from standing on the floor, i can only onto a foam pit).
i want to know if its possible to only do some routines (i would want to compete in rings, pommel (maybe p-bars and maybe horizontal bar)).

Would this be possible (for reference im in the UK if that makes a difference)

There is something called an event specialist, which is a gymnast who compete on one or only a few apparatus. There are lots of reasons for event specialist, like an injury preventing them from doing others, being so much better at certain apparatus than others, or not enough time to do the required training hours for all 6 apparatus.

Would i be able to compete as a specialist at lower level comps?

I would say if you can get skills on the event to compete L7, that would make the most sense. It is open, and you could compete against people closer to your own age. At the lower levels, you could be competing against kids much younger, and it might not be as fun.

Level 7.

Men's gymnastics has levels that you progress thru based on skill/age. Levels 4-6 are compulsary. Everyone pretty much does the same routines/skills.

L7 is the first optional level, where you can do skills that you can do. A coach can help you figure out if you have skills to do that or not.

What country are you in? That will determine what rules you'll be competing under.
Generally speaking, yes, you can compete just one event. In the USA, it's more common at the upper levels than at the lower levels, but there's no rule that says you can't at lower levels.
I would ask your coach. They'll be familiar with the ruleset for your area.

Sorry..my bad. I see you are in the UK, so the system will be different.
