Looking for clarification on how far in advance of a meet gyms can usually register for it? If a team can't attend a meet that has long been on the schedule because it's full, does that mean someone dropped the ball with registration or is it common for gyms to have to vie for spots and scramble for alternative meets a month out from the meet date? Team of newcomers wondering if you pretty much need to clear all weekends during competition season.

typically the gym staff know which meets fill up fast and it is their responsibility to get their registations in early but yes, even then the gym can get locked out. Sometimes what was once an easy meet to register in becomes more popular and so the gym might be caught off guard. Possibly Covid is also causing less meets to happen so all the gyms are vying for less spots. Our old gym would register for all of the meets by the end of the summer for January meet season

ETA - we were always given a meet schedule by the end of the summer and it rarely changed. We usually did meets every other week throughout the regular season. Now, you often don't know until the week before/of as to what specific day/time the gymnasts would compete.

We got our tentative meet schedule 2 weeks ago. This includes the dates and venues of the meets our gym is attending with details of hotel bookings if necessary. We are given approximate costs in advance so that we can pay in instalments if we want. We even have session times for our daughters posted on this schedule although this is sometimes changed closer to the time. We will get more info about each meet closer to the time. Our in-house meets are also included in the schedule but those can change.
It is the gym's responsibility to register it's gymnasts for meets and ours have experience knowing when to register for each one. When we get this meet schedule we have to sign if our gymnast will be attending all or will opt out of any - so the gym can let the meet director know exact numbers by the deadline.

One of the meets that we are going to had a due date of October 15. We received an email in early September letting us know that it was already 85% full. We entered that night. This is a large, convention center meet. Sometimes they just fill up fast.

We were shut out of a large invitational we regularly attend this year. Submitted or attempted to submit entry well before the cutoff date (like 8-10 weeks before). Sometimes meets fill quickly.

Looking for clarification on how far in advance of a meet gyms can usually register for it………. It depends on the meet

If a team can't attend a meet that has long been on the schedule because it's full, does that mean someone dropped the ball with registration……… It could be either of those things, and either gyms fault, the host gym or yours.

scramble for alternative meets a month out from the meet date?.. It happens

wondering if you pretty much need to clear all weekends during competition season…….. Kind of

We got our schedule last week. Late start for getting the schedule and late start for meets. First meet in January, usually it’s October.

I’m sure a lot of this is Covid related as a lot of gyms based on our state gymnastics site were late posting dates. I‘m also sure things will change even more then a typical gymnastics season due to The Covid.

And this is going into our 10th competitive season. When a meet is scheduled we block out the whole weekend as you won’t know report times until closer to the actual weekend. All other activities get qualified RSVPs, yes we’re in as long as she doesn’t have her meet. And I seriously mean the whole weekend. We have had start time range from Friday at noon, to Sunday at 8pm. And anywhere in between.

We are open to last minute add on meets and sometimes we say sorry coach, not enough notice we have other plans.
