I've seen a lot of videos where someone will be facing forward (or slightly forward; and also their feet won't be completely planted sideways) when taking off into a side flip. And it looks like they slightly twist into the sideways rotation. I usually see this more often when an individual starts off the move with a run-up.

Is it still considered a normal side flip? Because I was thinking that the body and feet need to be completely positioned sideways when taking off.

The mist common method in MAG is a backward takeoff, ie from a roundoff or BHS, followed by a quarter twist after leaving the floor.

The next-most-common technique is a sideways(ish) takeoff from one foot at a time, from either a cartwheel or a simple run/step.
