I am seeking feedback from other parents/gymnasts regarding sesamoid injuries. In short, I took my 11 year old (level 7) daughter to see a foot and ankle specialist today regarding ongoing pain in the ball of her foot, directly under her big toe. They took an X-Ray and it was found that she has bipartite sesamoid medially in her right foot. The physician said the diagnosis would be sesamoiditis and that it is a chronic condition. He immediately suggested that she should no longer do gymnastics permanently. He said that any type of treatment would be temporary relief and as soon as she resumed activity, the pain would return. Has anyone else personally experienced this injury? If so, was it career ending or managed? To be clear, she does not have any sort of fracture or break. Her medially sesamoid bone formed in two pieces instead of one.
