WHO TV-13 sports director Keith Murphy and Register sports online editor Todd Bailey covered an Olympic sendoff for Beijing-bound gymnast Shawn Johnson and track qualifier Lolo Jones at Hy-Vee Hall in downtown Des Moines.

Johnson, of West Des Moines, is the gold-medal favorite in women’s gymnastics, while Jones — a Des Moines Roosevelt graduate — qualified by winning the 100-meter hurdles at the recent U.S. Olympic Trials.
Johnson also announced that she will participate in a gymnastics superstar tour that will make a stop at Wells Fargo Arena on Nov. 15.
