Here are my answers:

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training?

What level is your dd competing? My daughter will be doing level 6

Are they ready to compete? Almost. 1st comp is Dec. Still working on a few skills. Front tuck on floor and full turn on beam are not all that consistant. Free hip is not that close. Beam routine looks very pretty. I have not seen floor yet.

Any skills giving them trouble? l6 bar routine. Kips are good. Still working on free hip and flyaway

What do you think will be their strongest event will be? Beam

What do you think their weakest event will be?Bars

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training? Training is going good. They train the same over summer, so no difference.

What level is your dd competing? She will compete Level 4 in the Spring.

Are they ready to compete? She is ready for bars, floor and vault. They haven't even learned the whole beam routine yet. Her gym uptrains, which she loves. I do think had they only worked on L4 skills and routines all summer she would have been ready by fall season, but my DD loves working on other skills, so no problem for us. I know some of the moms are upset that they aren't ready to compete. I am just envisioning those meet fees in my pocket. LOL. She is in this for fun, so not in a rush. :D

Any skills giving them trouble? Her beam dismount is what she is struggling with. Beam is her least favorite and weakest event.

What do you think will be their strongest event will be? Bars or floor.

What do you think their weakest event will be? Definitely beam. LOL.

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training? Training is at a standstill until she can heal from her fractured collarbone

What level is your dd competing? level 6

Are they ready to compete? She WAS doing a great job until the break on Aug 1.

Any skills giving them trouble? Free hip circle on bars

What do you think will be their strongest event will be? Hard to say at this point. Floor was looking pretty good.

What do you think their weakest event will be? the Level 6 bar routine!!

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training? Things are going well for DD. Bars is easy for her, and beam is pretty good, too. She's doing fine on floor, though her ROBHS needs some work, as does her front limber. Vault definitely needs attention. She keeps bending her legs and sometimes ends up in a tuck rather than a handstand!

What level is your dd competing? Level 4 beginning in January.

Are they ready to compete? They haven't really put any of the full routines together yet, except a little on bars. So no, they aren't ready. But there is four more months for perfecting skills and polishing routines.

Any skills giving them trouble? Vault. She really likes it but cannot seem to leave the springboard with straight legs.

What do you think will be their strongest event will be? Bars, for sure, followed closely by beam.

What do you think their weakest event will be? Vault, without a doubt. It was the same last season, too.

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training? Both of my girls are doing cheering as well as gym so it's been rough on ME ....they have been going to cheer for 1.5 hrs, then running out to go to gym for the 2nd 1.5 hrs. Can't wait till the end of cheering. At the gym, things are great, from a parents' perspective but maybe not from the kids. We got some new coaches, who are working them harder and with more discipline so the kids are not used to that. We have a terrific new dance instructor/ex-gymnast, who is working hard to improve their form.

What level is your dd competing? Big DD will compete Level 8. Little monkey will be doing a 2nd yr as Level 5. Both girls do not start their season till Jan 09. For USAIGC, big DD will be Gold level and little one will be Bronze level as well as Silver event specialist (FX).

Are they ready to compete? Little Monkey is more than ready and chomping at the bit. Big DD ....very anxious about new/harder skills

Any skills giving them trouble?
Little Monkey is doing ok, still working hard on her jump to high bar, but getting better each time.
Big DD is stressing over her giants, tsuks and beam series!!

What do you think will be their strongest event will be? Little DD's strongest even has been beam for USAG and Beam/FX for USAIGC
Big DD's strongest event up till L7 was beam. Now....we are not sure... Last year, she was "average" across the board. For USAIGC her strongest is still beam.

What do you think their weakest event will be? Little Monkey - bars
Big DD - too early to tell

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training?

Good! During the summer they learned some other skills. DD did a back walkover on the high beam, learned a L6 beam dismount, did ROBHSBHS and started to learn tucks and does dive rolls which is a skill I really don't like & call the neck breaker. She is up to 3 good press handstands in a row and still working on getting to 5 or more.

What level is your dd competing?

2nd year of L4. She got thrown into it last minute last year and was only 6!

Are they ready to compete?

Yes! Has been conditioning since Feb and is more than ready to show off now that she has some confidence.

Any skills giving them trouble?

Well, I stayed for practice today since I haven't seen anything all Summer. ROBHS looks good and so does bars...that dreaded Mill circle gave her a bit of trouble last year sometimes. I did not see the entire beam routine yet. I hope she improved on that, she never got a score higher than an 8 on that event.

What do you think will be their strongest event will be?

Well, she got 4th place on vault last year at states and her highest scores are on vault. Even her first meet she got a 8.6. She loves bars though and seems to be really working hard to improve it.

What do you think their weakest event will be?

Well, I would have to say beam has always been the worst. From what I could tell today at practice the coach has really worked with the girls on this event and the floor. But I haven't seem her whole beam routine yet. Her goal is to get over 8.0

DD does OK on the floor but has always lacked that confidence, polish and working the hand gestures. She loves the tumbling though and hopes to crack over a 9.0 on this one.

Last year her best AA score was probably about a 34, so this year we would love to see 35 & up. She qualified on her 2nd meet for sectionals (30AA) and on her first sectional got over a 32 AA so we are not worried about that for this year. I think doing the second year will give her an opportunity to really enjoy going to meets and perfecting those basic skills. She really looks forward to going to L5 afterwards.

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training?
Training is great! Leah and Lexi are working on their bar routine a lot. Ab is getting her floor routine soon and also working on her bars tons. And little Hannah is working the level 4 bar routine. A lot of bar work in this house:p
What level is your dd competing?
Abby-level 7
Leah and Lexi-level 6
Hannah- not old enough to compete yet she's only 4!:)
Are they ready to compete?
I am worried a bit about Abby on bars. She has a lot of trouble doing skills, and that will throw her off. Leah and Lexi I'm not too worried about, I just hope they perfect their free-hip in time for comp.
Any skills giving them trouble?
The twins are having a bit of trouble with cleaning up their free-hips. Abby is having trouble with connections and giants:(
What do you think will be their strongest event will be?
Abby- definately floor!
Leah- beam\floor
Alexis- bars
What do you think their weakest event will be?
Abby- bars
Leah-vault
Alexis- beam

Nice idea!

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training?
Training is going pretty well. First meet is in 3 weeks so they are starting to work on the routines a but more now.

What level is your dd competing? She will compete L3 again for the fall and either L4 or Rookie in January.

Are they ready to compete? yes. since she is doing L3 again it is all about polishing up the routines. Now she has her mill circle though and that should help as she did not get it last year until after meet season.

Any skills giving them trouble? no

What do you think will be their strongest event will be? vault or bars

What do you think their weakest event will be? floor

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training? Great so far! DD worked hard all summer and had some additional fun and conditioning time while she was in the summer camp.

What level is your dd competing? DD will compete at Level 4 Mason Dixon League.

Are they ready to compete? They all still need to master certain skills on certain events. My DD has most of the skills but is not doing them consistently enough yet.

Any skills giving them trouble? The ROBHS is my dd's achille's heel but the hesitation is getting less and less and she is much more confident with the BHS than last year. She has a bit of trouble with the turns and leaps on floor and beam (grace and elegance was definitely not needed in cheerleading!)

What do you think will be their strongest event will be? I think DD's strongest event will be vault, then beam, then bars and then floor. It's hard to say really. She likes them all, which is great, and seems to do well on all of them also. We'll see come December!

What do you think their weakest event will be? I think weakest will be floor for DD. Only because there is a lot of dance (that she is not used to) and the ROBHS that she is not currently doing by herself.

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training?
Terrible b/c of the stupid wrist.

What level is your dd competing?
Level 7 - thank goodness not until January

Are they ready to compete?
She was - I'm curious how much catch up she will have to do once she can use the wrist again.

Any skills giving them trouble?
Her bars will most likely suffer the most - they were looking really good before though, so hopefully she won't lose too much strength (fingers crossed)

What do you think will be their strongest event will be?
Most definitely vault - followed by floor. I love to watch her vault and one of the other level 7 moms was just telling me today that when she did that one level 7 meet just for practice she thought her floor routine was so beautiful it brought tears to her eyes. Isn't that the sweetest thing!! Anyway - again hopefully her tumbling comes right back - but it is usually her strong point (again fingers crossed)

What do you think their weakest event will be?
Bars - not sure if she will have time to perfect cast to handstand and giants. If not - oh well - the world won't come to an end.

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training?
  • Training is going pretty good, We just started school here on Thursday so we are still getting into the swing of things this year. We had 5 team girls leave over the summer. 3 quit, 1 moved to a different state and 1 moved to a different town. We did get 2 new girls from other gyms. But the whole dynamic of Team has changed a little. It is taking a little getting used to for everyone
What level is your dd competing?
  • She really really hopes to compete L8. We won't know until we get the first meet registration. The frustrating part is that HC wanted her to compete L8 at the end of last season. DD said no because she was getting good scores and wanted to finish out the season. HC changed the rules this year and now he says she might not compete L8. Kinda furstrating....
Are they ready to compete?
  • We don't have our first meet till January for Optionals. But I am pretty sure she could pull out a decent Beam & Floor routine today if she had to. If she competed Bars right now her Start value would be either at 9.2 or a 9.7, and her Vaults start at a 9.0..
Any skills giving them trouble?
  • On Vault she needs to be more confident on her Tsuk. She doesn't stay tucked enough on her tuck.. the funny thing is that she has always had a hard time with tucks. Her pike is WAY Better.. so hopefully she will get enough power to do a Pike tsuk.
  • On Bars, Cast to handstand - she only hits handstand about half the time. And her Pioruette, she was doing them but now hasn't in a couple weeks.. That is probably going to be the skill that holds her back at L7
  • Floor and Beam she could compete L9 probably.. she has enough skills
What do you think will be their strongest event will be?
  • Beam - always has been. Then Floor...
What do you think their weakest event will be?
  • Probably bars.. That pioruette.. it is going to be her down fall..

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training?
Ok, she had all of her level 4 skills at the beginning of summer and worked on up training. Tuesday was a rough day of practice (first day of school, insane 90 degree heat, and she was starting a better bad viral infection that knocked her out of the gym for the remainder of the week).

What level is your dd competing?
Level 4

Are they ready to compete?
For the most part yes, they learned routines the last two weeks of summer, but we will not compete until Dec so there is plenty of time to clean things up.

Any skills giving them trouble?
Staying forward on the shoot thru, she tends to fall back alot, remembering straight legs and pointed toes on the beam, cleaning up her ROBHS.

What do you think will be their strongest event will be?
Even though she does not like it as much, I think that she should do pretty well on beam, and also her favorite event--floor.

What do you think their weakest event will be?
Bars--she does not keep her legs straight after the shoot thru before and after the mill circle.

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training? Training is going good. Daughter is very happy and likes going to gymnastics these days. They trained up in alot of adavanced skills this summer and she had alot of fun.

What level is your dd competing?
Not sure what level she will be competing yet either 4 again or 5. She does not seem to be care what she will be competing since she is training with the levels 5 but reveiwing her level four routines. I think she will have a better year if she repeats 4 but I quess it is up to the coaches.

Are they ready to compete?
If she repeats 4 she is ready for 5 definitely not she has her vault and cartwheel on the beam but she still needs her kip.
Any skills giving them trouble?
Getting her kip, and the fronthandspring on the floor
What do you think will be their strongest event will be?
The vault has always seemed the easist but she is really good at the floor and beam because she seems to do really well at the dance and performance aspect of gymnastics, she has alot of confidence when she performs and does not look nervous. She is good at remembering her routines her coaches were surprised how good she remembered her routines from last year.
What do you think their weakest event will be?
She has always struggled with bars.

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training?
Training is great! Ray is doing great and learning a lot. She's also finally feeling as though she belongs..most of her goup is quite a bit older than her.

What level is your dd competing?
I have no idea! She has been training with level 8's and nines, with the goal of having her compete level 8. She competed level 5 last year, and her coach had been of the mindset that she would jump a few levels to compete 8, unless she wasn't ready, then 7. Then she decided it would be 6 or 8, not 7 because she's been training a yurchenko vault since last spring, and her coach didn't want her wasting her time training a handspring full for level 7 if she'd never use the vault again. As of yesterday, I've been told it's 7 or 8, Ray told me the coach isn't sure if she's allowed to jump that many levels, so if she can't she'll be competing level 7 with a bad vault (lol) and no real chance at an all around medal.

Are they ready to compete?
Once again, not sure. She says she is, but I haven't seen her in action! Mentally-YES!

Any skills giving them trouble?
Not that she's mentioned, although I don't think she's got her bhs bhs up to the high beam yet.

What do you think will be their strongest event will be?
Floor, she's a real performer. Mexican hat dance is the new music, and I've seen bits and pieces of her routine (in the livingroom) quite cute.

What do you think their weakest event will be?
Vault, regardless of her level. Just hasn't been her strongest event thus far.

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training?
Great! My son Matt will be a first year level 5, Alexis will start her first year of level 4, and Kayla is learning a back handspring (scared mommy to death!)
What level is your dd competing?
Matt- level 5
Alexis-level 4
Are they ready to compete?
This is the first year for both- we will see!
Any skills giving them trouble?
Alexis on vault, she doesn't drive her heals hard enough. Matt on pommels, he keeps falling off:p
What do you think will be their strongest event will be?
Matt- floor
Alexis- beam
What do you think their weakest event will be?
Matt- pommels
Alexis- vault

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training?
Okay, nothing too exciting to report
What level is your dd competing?
Level 5- first meet is in November
Are they ready to compete?
No, She still has to learn the dance parts in her routines
Any skills giving them trouble?
Long hang kip
What do you think will be their strongest event?
Beam
What do you think their weakest event will be?
Bars

Training- It's going well. All the kids seem a little more motivated after the Olympics!

What level- DD will be doing level 6.

Ready to compete- Not quite. She just needs some more confidence and polish. The skills are there. She doesn't compete until December, so there is time!

Any skills giving her trouble- The beam dismount is a thorn in her side. She tries to hurry through the first handstand and it throws her off when she tries to turn into the second. She can do it-just not consistently.

Strongest event- It's going to be bars again. But, thanks to her incredible tumbling coach, I think her floor will continue to improve. (If only I could convince her to try a ballet class...she thinks it's too "girly".)

Weakest- Beam will be a struggle, only because she lacks confidence on it. However, she is doing BWO on high beam without a spot (yay beam fairy).

Good luck to everyone for the season ahead! Know that I am cheering for your gymnasts too!

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training?

Training has been wonderful... dd is working consecutively on 2 seperate levels and loving every second of it. I was worried it would be too much, but coaches really know what they are doing :D - gym travel is another story!:(

What level is your dd competing?

L5 2 - 3 meets, & then on to L6

Are they ready to compete?

Ready (and then some) for L5 - ha, ha! Ready for L6 on fx & beam. Vault needs some work and needs quite a few more reps to meet bar coach's UB "ready to compete" mode.

Any skills giving them trouble?

No real trouble yet, but certainly needs to be more aggressive for L6 vault.

What do you think will be their strongest event will be?

bars or beam.

What do you think their weakest event will be?

Probably vault.

Now that summer is over and competitions are starting how goes the training? Working through some growth related problems--low back pain on taps and pirouettes due to tight hamstrings/tight hip flexors, knee pain(getting better) and now left elbow pain diagnosed as tennis elbow(lateral epicondylitis). Other than that she's just wonderful!!
Overall, the summer training was great and now she has her whip and is connecting it to a back tuck on rod floor and just started doing 1 1/4 flyaways into the pit---the very very beginning of a double back.

What level is your dd competing? Hope for L8--won't know for sure til final skill testing the 2nd week of Oct.

Are they ready to compete? Nope--levels haven't been set and then routines will have to be worked. She has a pretty good idea of what skills they have talked to her about on each event, but putting them all together will take time.

Any skills giving them trouble? Back tuck on beam

What do you think will be their strongest event will be? Vault or bars

What do you think their weakest event will be? I would say beam, but can't tell yet since all they're doing are skills.
