Proud Parent
I know your gymmies have all been working their butts off all summer. What amazing new things can they do now that they couldn't at the beginning?

DD, who competed L7 last year, has the following new things:
-- giant flyaway with a very light spot
-- stalder circle in straps on bars
-- the occasional 1/2 pirouette
-- roundoff on beam
-- tsuk with spring board and hurdle mat into the pit
-- FULL on FLOOR as of yesterday!
-- RO-whip-tuck on sting mats

DS, who will be L6 this upcoming season, has learned the following:
-- front HS stepout FHS
-- front tuck
-- entire L6 pommel routine
-- Moore on mushroom
-- Russian on mushroom
-- fairly consistent 3+ loops on floor horse
-- >10 circles on floor mushroom
-- uprise on rings
-- inlocate on straps in rings
-- FHS vault
-- Pbars kip
-- Pbars moy
-- pbars stutz dismount
-- giants in straps on hbar (and occasionally one on the real bar)
-- consistent kip cast on hbar

So proud of them for all their hard work, but actually most proud of DD, who's continued to work on a few skills not on the "accomplished" list that have been bedeviling her all summer long.

Congrats to your kids! They have quite a long list of new skills to celebrate!

My oldest DD (9 years old, repeating old 5/"new" 4) got her:
-back walkover on high beam
-ROBHS back tuck into the pit
-front tuck on floor

My middle DD (6.5 years old, competing new L4 when she turns 7) got:
-Low bar and high bar kips
-Cast handstand on low bar
-Baby giant
-Cartwheel on high beam
-Roundoff double BHS on floor
-Front handspring on floor
-Vault over the table

My baby DD (5 years old, training L3) got:
-Backbend
-Bridge Kickover
-One-armed cartwheel
-L3 vault (handstand slam)

My middle DD made the most progress because all the skills were new to her. My oldest is repeating a level, so she mostly refined old skills. They all worked hard, and I'm very proud of their achievements.

Love it! Love the new skills :)

DD training in a program similar to L8? Got her....

Aerial on beam
Back layout full twist
Giant x3 to flyaway
Free hip (almost to HS)
FHS RO BHS BLO combo
Full turn on floor with leg up at 180 deg.

And is now working on....
BHS BLO on beam
Front aerial on beam
Started front giants
Trying tsuks herself
RO BLO beam dismount

It has been a great summer for her :D

Fun to hear all of these summer skills! I'm still trying to learn the names of each one, let alone the abbreviations you all use, but I'm making some progress. At least I have understood most of what my daughter has come home & shared with me this summer (and her coaches).

The one that has excited LL the most is back handspring on the beam:

She's also mentioned cast to handstand, free hip, full turn of some sort on the beam and connecting her full lvl 5 floor routine that includes a round off, handspring, front tuck... I think?

She needs to get her flyaway still and she sometimes gets to do a giant with straps.

Hey! I almost missed that part! That is awesome for her, as I remember you saying how hard she was working on that one. Congrats to her and your son :)

DD has her
Bar
giants on the pit bar
kip cast handstand flyaway

Beam
back walkover back handspring connected
back handspring
cartwheel back tuck dismount
round off on the low beam

floor
back layout
front handspring front tuck and front pike.
this back walkover stop in handstand and turn 360 it doesn't have a name but is a b skill

Nothing new on vault unless you count that she finally figured out the faster you run the better the vault :)

Older gymmie (competing Xcel Gold):
RO BHS BT is back! (only on Air Track for now)
FT is back
Wolf 1/2 on floor
Dive Cartwheel on Low beam and 1/2 level beam
Round off beam dismount
Handspring beam dismount
Front tuck beam dismount

Younger gymmie (repeating Old 4/New 3):
RO-BHS-BHS (75% of the time)
Back walkover
Tinsica (she is attempting a FHS, lol)
Beam Dismount (90% of the time now)
Long Hang Pullover on High Bar
Front Tuck on air track

Congrats to all gymmies out there who got new skills or cleaned up old ones this summer :)

Haha, DD finally figured that one out last year! But I still get probably three more years of watching DS chase butterflies down the vault track. Congrats -- that will make a BIG difference.

Isn't it amazing how much they can learn in a few months? Especially when I think back to the days that I had to hold my breath while she was doing a backbend kickover in a meet!

DD will be a L8, competed level 7 last year, and has added:

Bars: DB dismount (been doing on the real bar for 2 or 3 weeks now -- she's over the moon on this one),
1/2 Pirouette (and not hitting her feet -- I guess that's a big deal since she keeps telling me);
Some release thing-y (sorry can't remember the name of the skill - she won't be competing this year because she doesn't need it).
Floor: full and a half on floor (working double full on tumble track),
FHS-FLO-FT (though her coach is trying to get her to do a FHS FP FP - she's leery on this latter one for some reason),
Front step out, back full (I think that's how its described),
Beam: BHS, BHS (though she has BWO BHS in pocket to compete if she's not consistent enough),
Switch leap-straddle jump,
FWO,
BT (doing on high beam, but not planning on completing),
FLO dismount.
Vault: Tsuk tuck (was doing tsuk pike till 2 weeks ago and timing is now off on that so it's back to a work in process).

I'm just so proud of her hard work and focus. Sometimes I'm not sure if I should feel impressed with her accomplishments or just plain nervous.

My gymmie has learned a good deal this summer
Bars- baby giants, straddle handstand on low bar
Beam- bwo, back tuck dismount, can do bwo bwo in 12 inch high beam
Floor- ro hs layout, front handspring, front walkover, and getting a lot more height on jumps
Vault- handspring vault although she still isn't consistent- vault is her weakest event

The biggest IMO is that DD enjoys her new gym so much she doesn't beg me to stay and watch. She is to busy and engaged.

On her front, her ROBHS is now a thing of beauty. But other than that I don't know because I don't watch practice anymore and she is all excited to 'surprise' me with her new routine at the first meet.

What a fun thread! My DD competed L3 last year, this year it will either be new 3 or 4 still up in the air cause her kip is *this* close.

This summer she has perfected her BWO on beam, got her round off, BHS, back tuck, front hand springs, squat ons, and front hand spring over the vault. It's been a productive summer, just patiently waiting on that darn kip! Bars is by far her weakest event!
