Just curious- does your governing body have easily accessible information on how many training hours is appropriate for your gymnast's age and level?
I've just tried to find something from British Gymnastics and it feels like there's no guidance at all! How can parents make informed decisions when the information is not available to them?

There really is no guidance and it is really different depending on training style and athlete as well.

There are no rules here in Australia, you can coach the kids as much as you can convince them to be in the gym.

But obviously there are lots of constraints that stop a gym from over prescribing hours. Like kids having to be in school, parents not prepared to have their kid in the gym those hours, financial constraints, availability of equipment and coaches etc.

In reality what is right for each child is totally different. You could have 2 gymnasts of the exact same age and level, for one the hours are too much and they will burn out and get injured, for the next they may not even be enough.

Your child is doing too many hours if they aren't happy to be going to gymnastics, if they are getting excessive injuries, if they are tired all the time, if they lose interest in peers and other activities, well many things really. As a parent you watch how they act and you will know.
