So here is a fun one! I came up with it while laying in bed last night. SO what country/person was dominate during the year that you were born!

I was born in 1996 and The united states were dominate and when you think about a specififc person I would say there was just 1 it was the entire Magnificent 7 team. My favorite gymnast that year was Kerri Strug though:)

Im excited to hear about the great gymnasts and teams the years you were born!

Now to answer this question, I would have to admit just how old I am and we all know you're not supposed to ask a lady that question. ;) Having said that, I'll willing admit that I'm an oldie and the USSR was the country to beat. The top gymanst at that time was Larissa Latynina who won 9 olympic gold metals. She was 21 when she went to her first olympics and won 6 medals, 25 at her second olympics where she won 6 metals and 29 for her final trip to the olympics which resulted in 6 more metals. My how the sport has changed in the years.

LOL. You took the words out of my mouth. For me, I would have to say Nadia Comaneci. She got her perfect 10 less than a year prior to my birth date.

okay, you asked...

Well when I was born it was Larissa Latynina (USSR / Russia)
Two-time Olympic (1956, 1960) and two-time World (1958, 1962) all-around champion. She still holds the record for having won the most number of Olympic medals at eighteen (nine gold medals, five silver and four bronze). Trained in ballet, she was known for her graceful movements on floor exercise where she won three consecutive Olympic titles (1956, 1960 and 1964

But the one I that I first remember is Olga Korbut from the country of Belarus. I think she was the gymnast who brought gymnastics into the limelight and was the single force that made gymnasitc the popular sport that we all know today.

I am really curious to know now but I have no idea how to figure it out. I googled it and came up with nothing, obviously I did not pay attention until I was interested in gymnastics and old enough to care. Any way to figure it out?

Kim Zmeskal, Shannon Miller, Romania, and the EUN (former USSR). It was EUN, Romania, and USA coming in first, second, and third, respectively, in that Olymipcs.

Okay, I'm not revealing when I was born, but my DD was born during the 96 Olympics. I remember watching it on TV in the hospital the day I gave birth.

Aurelia Dobre and the Romanian Team managed to upset the USSR.

It was the year of the original Rotterdam Worlds and probably one of the best years ever in international gymnastics. Even though overall, I prefer the year of my sister's birth, 1989 and the original Stuttgart Worlds. Mostly, because Laschenova is one of my favourite gymnasts ever. Her, and Dudnik's beam routine. Or 1986, because there were a lot of relatively obscure (= never made the Olympic or even World team) but immensely pretty Soviets competing:)
For some reason, to me personally 1988 is the least exciting year of that era, in terms of actual gymnastics, in spite of the fact that the All Around final was an absolute classic and insanely exciting...
