WAG Talk to coach or let it go?

This kind of behaviour by a coach could make a mental block much much worse! And if she ends up with a block so bad that she cannot bring herself to ever set foot on a vault again, she will end up having to quit anyway. Talk to the coach!

    WAG Mental blocks

My daughter has a teammate who been with a block for 6 months....finally got her skills back a few weeks ago, had some mean girl drama at school this week which really upset her, and boom she is blocking on everything again last night! As you can see, the stress definately does not have to be...

WAG Should I just back away or push her? Time crunch help!!

One other thing I forgot to mention is that too much pressure can also cause a block to spread....I have seen girls block on robhs and be fine with standing skills, and then if pressured too much start blocking on standing handspring, and even a back walkover as well. We even knew a girl that...

But mental blocks are strange in that they can seem to be getting better one day, and then worse the next and so forth. It can go up and down like a yo-yo for some time before she is consistent with it again. Sometimes the littlest of things can affect it....even stuff unrelated to the gym...

The problem with possibly balking is that is affects the athletes confidence significantly, and ultimately blocks are not a matter of lack of ability but rather lack of confidence. Balking in front of an audience may cause the block to get worse due to the shame or embarrassment she will feel...

Converting from cheer...T&T a better fit than Artistic?

Do you have to compete in all events, or can you just do tumbling without trampoline?

Converting from cheer...T&T a better fit than Artistic?

My 11 yr old daughter, who has been in all-star cheer for 1 1/2 yrs, is thinking that she may want to switch from cheer to gymnastics. She has no prior gymnastics experience, but is a very fast learner when it comes to tumbling, having gone from a front roll to a standing tuck in the short time...

WAG 11 yr old wants to switch from cheer to gymnastics...too late?

This is my concern! She loves to tumble, and I think she may get bored with lack of tumbling, but yet, there are definitely basics that she needs to learn. My other concern is if they put her in a higher level and try to get her caught up quickly, the pressure may get to her. she learns...

Could you explain Xcel to me? I have seen it mentioned here a lot, but we are new to the gymnastics world, so I am finding everything confusing

So true! I find she seems to escape some of the girl drama (already in grade 5!) because she is busy with cheer practice, open gym, or tumbling lessons. She often hears about the drama after the fact from her school friends but is rarely involved because it all went down while she was at a...

My daughter is level 2 in cheer as well, although she does have some higher level tumbling. My gosh, how do you find the time for both? I find cheer takes up so much of our time.

Sounds like my kid. She was also pretty much self taught.....taught herself bwo, BHS, RO BHS, RO tuck, standing tuck, aerial. Once she started getting all of these skills, we decided that it be best to get her some private tumbling with a coach to clean things up and learn proper technique...

Laney is awesome! Bars is her biggest hurdle in gymnastics as well....but I am sure all gymnasts have events that they are strong on and events that are a bigger struggle for them regardless of how long they have been in gym.

I think she would do well at T and T because she has lots of power and she loves the trampoline as well, however the gym that she is currently taking lessons at is only 1 year old and does not yet have a competitive T and T team.

Funny that you say that because she has had 2 different gymnastic coaches tell her that she could do well on beam because her bwo and BHS step out are very straight, however they also said that bars would be the apparatus that she would struggle with the most because she needs more arm and upper...
