Thought I’d update— after spending some time thinking, I decided to move her to a different gym with less hours and over all a less hard core feel. I really think it was a case of too much too soon and too young, Because she is thriving now with less. She misses her coaches but she seems less...
She’s in a pre-team group that goes 9hrs a week, 3 afternoons a week. I believe they do 30 mins warm up (sometimes looks like conditioning to me) and 30 mins actual conditioning each day. Her group is 5-8 year olds but mostly 6-7 yr olds. Yeah I don’t really agree with her sitting out till she...
So I reached out and her coach said she was just kind of not trying at all at some of the stations (just hanging on bar instead of doing the tuck ups and only climbing like two feet on the rope then falling down.) but claiming she was so they had her sit out till she would give her full effort...
Our gym uses the same star system but I don’t think they take away stars, and they will move the child up if they think they are ready even if they don’t have all the stars, just the main required skills.
My child moved up to a new group, had her first full week with them and met a new coach. The evening after her practice she told me she had been put in time out at conditioning after the coach told her “You are terrible” (at whatever they were doing-rope climbs leg lifts etc) and had her sit out...
Thought I’d update, she was recently invited to a 9hr a wk group and I don’t know if I’m going to move her up. 9 hours seems like a lot, but so did 6. Got to love gymnastics
Thanks y’all, I’ll just give her time to bloom! It is hard to not help ahaha. I did have a talk with her about staying positive and how believing in yourself can help with skills, and she did like 3 pullovers at practice after that
My 5 year old is in a preteam development group and she is the only one in her group that does not have a backwards roll on the floor and she’s only gotten her pullover a few times. She’s frustrated!! She has beautiful form on handstand and cartwheels (idk if that matters). I’m not sure if...
Thought I’d give a little update.. She did the 3hrs the other day and had a lot of fun and even made a friend. She was obviously really tired once we got home and went right to bed lol. Since the first class went well I’m going to have her stick with it for a month and reevaluate then. Hoping...
Thanks for the input everyone. The hours are for like a pre-preteam kind of program. I think I’m going to have her try it for a few weeks and see how it goes. She is never tired after her current class so we’ll see how doubling it works out lol. I wish it wasn’t so long but I’m glad it’s only...
How do you determine how much is too much? My daughter has been in a 1.5hr twice a week class for a few weeks and has now been invited to move up to class that meets for 3hrs twice a week. Does anyone else have a child this age doing 3hr practices? I’d like to hear how they handle it!! Thanks!
Thanks for all the input! I’m going to have her try the class for a few more weeks, and see how she settles in. I’m hoping this will turn into a good lesson about how trying new things that scare you can be fun and rewarding. She loves her current coach which I think is why she’s more upset...
Let me start out by saying this question is about my 4.5 year old. She’s been going to this gym for 6ish weeks for a recreational class in the morning. Her coach has recommended that she move to a different class developmental class 2/wk for 1.5hrs each class. My daughter really loves...
