In this sport, mistakes are also made by parents early on in their child's journey. My advice to you is to do everything you can to avoid falling into the trap of becoming heavily invested in your child's journey / skills / comparison to others (either at her club or at other clubs) / pace of...
Ok. My boys are both fall babies. Younger is a 2012. So he would be competition age 13 - same as Canada.
And Level 7 is easier than Level 6? Interesting.
Level 7 needs handles, correct? And is Level 7 just x number of skills? Do they all have to be FIG COP skills, or do they allow skills...
Oh, thank you so much!! I really appreciate this. And boy oh boy, are the requirements / levels so different than in Canada
My younger son competed in our first optional level (Provincial 3) last year. Our “compulsory” levels are Provincial 1 and 2. But he’s missing skills for USAG Level 6...
Where can I find the “book” with the routines? My boys (Canadian) are doing a travel meet in the US this upcoming season, and I’d like to understand what the Level 5 and 6 routines are?
(Our system in Canada is completely different for MAG)
How old is your DD? How many girls are in her training group? What are their ages / levels relative to your DD?
My boys are in the same training group, and to keep the athletes working, their coach will have the athletes in groups of 3 or 4 on different apparatus. He will work closely with the...
It really does depend on the kid. We have one son who got an overuse injury when he increased to 16 h, and another who was fine at 16 h but started to get issues at 20 h. Some of their teammates had similar issues crop up as hours have increased, but some haven’t ever had any type of overuse...
Similar schedule here. My younger son was at 16 h/week the year he turned 9, then moved up to 20 h/week the year he turned 11. Most days during the week he comes home from school, eats something quickly, and heads to gym. When he gets back home ~9 pm, he has another meal and then goes straight...
Another thing to consider is that sometimes it can be more about how you’re using your muscles than flexibility
When you do your handstand, are you pushing into the floor with your hands? My son was told he had tight shoulders, but the real issue was he didn’t understand the mechanics of how to...
I’ve got two boys, two years apart, in the same level this year. Younger son has more natural gymnastics talent, although my older son is coming into his own now that he is starting to get stronger (puberty).
My older son said one day that he wished he was as strong and flexible as his brother...
Here are results for an Xcel meet in Ontario last year. You can cross reference gym names to see if any are close by.

One of my kids literally cried during every parent and tot class for an entire session. Sometimes it was epic meltdown level … red faced screaming “I don’t want to!!” I’m sure you can imagine.
I told him he didn’t have to do anything he didn’t want to do, but that we weren’t leaving the class...
Just wondering what your boys typically wear to practice?
At my boys’ gym, it t-shirts and shorts. The WAG athletes are all in leos (obviously).
I’ve followed a gym in Russia on IG (they have some amazing young guys training there), but what I notice is that all the boys wear singlets and gym...
I noticed it too. Doesn’t look normal to me. The tower at my sons’ gym doesn’t do this, but there’s another gym that hosts competitions that has a wobbly tower (not on a podium, just mounted on a concrete slab floor). My kids complain about that wobbly setup each time they compete there.
