I would say this is 100% correct. My gym actually teaches left round-off = right twister based on the way it translates to bars and wanting all twisting to go the same direction.
As a coach in Region 2, I would love more competition. Definitely would help keep my kids on their toes if qualifying to Westerns/Nationals required more than just showing up at Regionals.
Because I have nothing better to do this weekend. I filmed a couple more of the drills. The first is the one I described above. While her execution is not perfect (though not bad for a 5 year old) it will give you the idea.
This is a drill we do for form, head position, and shaping. They...
Excellent point. I guess I hadn't considered this a "press drill" as we do it during our bar rotation and not during press work. I absolutely love this drill! We actually do it against a post so that when the girls understand the shape well enough they can actually close their legs up to HS.
I work a lot on the shaping for the press. My kids do a ton of Straddle L holds and a ton of tuck planche holds with emphasis on having a "turtle back". We also do the drill I've shown below (although I wish I had a better video, her legs should be straight) and a drill where they have two of...
We just had our compulsory state meet last weekend (levels 3-5). There was one 38 all around in the entire competition. Definitely varies by area. I've coached in region 8 and region 5 in the past. Routines that would have scored ~9.5 in those regions score 8.8ish here and they almost never give...
So I'm wondering if anyone knows if the live stream for team finals will work the same as the others did. My head coach is wanting to "end" practice early and let the girls all watch it on our projector. I think it's a great idea but have no idea if it is doable.
Well I can't speak for the "average" TOPS club as this is my first year coaching a TOPS group. At my gym I have three 8 year olds and one 7 year old that will test this year. They practice for an hour before their regular practice three times a week. Those practices are focused solely on the...
Alright update time.
She competed the back walkover on Saturday. She did a pretty good routine and went 9.1. High fives and smiles all around!
On Monday, she did back handsprings on a low beam and did them well. In addition, one of her teammates (X) did her back handspring on a high beam...
