The great thing about XCEL is that the routines are tailored to your daughter’s strengths, so she may feel less pressure to reach specific skills by a certain time. I’d let her try it out if she still loves gymnastics!
I wanted to update the thread as I often read old threads and wonder how things turned out.
My daughter is happy and thriving at her new gym. She was so sad initially when her old gym friends suddenly wouldn’t reply to her, but she has made so many new friends at her new gym and seems truly...
My daughter is very sensitive too and it can be a challenge, I feel your pain. I try to always remind her that her coaches give her corrections because they want to help her be the best gymnast she can be, and that if they didn’t believe that she could improve they wouldn’t bother. I also...
@Dahlialover @estamey21 @raenndrops thank you for the great insight! I’ll be better prepared knowing to expect lower scores overall and likely lower than her teammates at first. Love this community
My daughter just finished her Xcel Gold season in spring. She began practicing with the level 4s in summer and decided she wants to change from Xcel to DP because it’s more intense at her gym and she wants to challenge herself. To be honest, I’m nervous for her. I liked the flexibility and less...
I started this thread over a year ago and my daughter has since changed gyms. I just wanted to say that everything said here was exactly what we have experienced in terms of drilling things like handstands to perfection. She has had to learn new ways of doing skills and really clean things up...
Make sure she has her grips in her bag BEFORE you leave the gym on the last practice before the meet! She “always” has an extra set of broken in grips in her gym bag but left both at the gym before her first meet and the gym was closed on the day we were leaving!
Is it a specific breed you’re interested in? Or a specific puppy that’s ready to go home by a certain date? If it’s a breed in general, maybe you can put the goal for saving the $700 on hold, and prioritize saving the $70 for the skates. You can offer to do chores for cash to cover the cost...
I’ve never thought about it this way! Although I don’t ever say anything about gymnastics being a sacrifice to my gymnast (because I don’t want her to feel guilty or burdened in any way), I do sometimes think to myself that we are giving up a lot in terms of time and using the money elsewhere...
What is the best advice you’ve received or given to a gymnast/family?
Mine was something I actually read here on CB:
Let it be theirs. Their sport, their journey. It’s incredible how often parents at the lower levels inadvertently take the joy out of gymnastics for their kids without...
Just wanted to add that it took my daughter forever to get her ROBHS. She was the last one on her team to get it, but once she got it she did it beautifully. Competing Xcel took the pressure off, and she did do a few private lessons to help her confidence. I just kept telling her that she’ll get...
