My heart goes out to Auburn. Bars has just killed them all year. And after such a great vault rotation, you began to believe they could pull it out, and then.... Hopefully they all get healthy and stay healthy next year, because they have some real talent on that team.
From what it sounds like you are at the appropriate age/level to start asking these serious questions. But I dont think you need to make that decision right now. As many have alluded to probably in another year or two (age 12-13) when time starts to become an enemy as far as longer term goals...
Gymnasts should reach L10 ideally sometime between 8 and 9th grade. Recruiting actively starts at the end of their sophomore year of high school. This allows a solid year or two at L10 for colleges to view and evaluate potential recruitable gymnasts. This is the average path, so while the...
I understand, and again coming from my personal experience (a parent who is getting ready to send mine off to college to compete and having done several of these camps). A two-day clinic is not going to correct perfect lines. There is really no perfect gym (although I think mine is pretty darn...
I have stated this before, but my, perhaps unpopular, opinion is that camps are a waste of time and especially money. The exception being when one is near recruiting age and is going to visit campus/programs. These are my points behind that
- Most camps are not long enough nor expose your...
I think that is a little uncalled for. Kate was not insinuating anything about you or your child. She was just relating her own experience/viewpoint as an actual coach. You continue to do you. I will always say a parent knows more about their own child than any random poster on a message...
Just taking a step back, big picture type thing, if you are coming to a message board for routine construction advice versus the coach that sees your child almost every day and should know better what your child can and cannot do.....
I guess if you want to have some academic type discussion...
Everyone has an opinion, and on a message board you will get all of them. So here is mine.
Yes, the previous disclaimers about making it to college are true, huge journey, lots of challenges to overcome before actually reaching it. BUT, there is no harm in educating and informing yourself...
Stay quiet mom. She will figure it out. Skills are more important, at least at this stage. Proficiency with skills will lead to confidence which in turn will lead to more "presentation". I dont think you need to worry about that until L10.
This. Whether one is "successful" or not in qualifying, if the program is done correctly, its an excellent opportunity to improve strength and foundation form which is which all larger skills are built on
Not sure the point of this? Asking for opinion on which is better? or just asking where posters go? Most folks go to the gym that is closest and easiest for them regardless of size. Perhaps if the get further along, more consideration is given to a different gym, but ultimately its about best...
