As a YMCA gymnast, I can tell you that the xcel program is great. I went from level 4 to xcel gold and had a very successful season as a gold. There were two divisions in my state, and this past year I was in the junior division (14 & under). For me, my routines scored higher not only because...
I was 13 when I competed l4 also at the YMCA and I switched to xcel gold the season after. Xcel gold was definitely a better suit for me (not to brag, but I won state as a gold vs not placing at all at state for l4). The problem I had was getting into the compulsory routines which made me feel...
I actually did the same thing but landed harder... turned out to be an avulsion fracture in my foot + bad ankle sprain. Go to a doctor. I was in a boot for 3 weeks, and have been in an ankle brace since May of this year. Good luck!!
Hi,
I just got a new routine tonight and my choreographer explained to me that I need to "loosen up" since too many of my movements are sharp/robotic. Do any of you happen to have any tips on how to do so?
Beam: round-off, switch leap on low beam.
Bars: flyaway w/ spot (in XCEL, so it wasn't really required for my level), toe hecht.
Floor: haven't done much because of nagging injury.
Vault: same as floor.
