    Gymnasts Goals for 2025?

Also in NZ, my daughter's goal is to get to the national championships, to qualify for the next level and to learn a really long tumbling pass (it changes day to day what this is, just lots of things all connected and scary enough to make me not want to watch)

Parents Travel Distance for a gym

We travel 30-40 minutes which is about my limit. One of the girls in my daughter's team travels 140 miles across a 3000 ft mountain pass (I think they may stay over at family sometimes). Not sure if I am that dedicated...

Parents Re-wearing leotards and leggings (laundry question)

My daughter's leos/shorts/etc. get one use and then go into the laundry basket. I have to wash some by hand and the water coming off is filthy. The solution to your problem might be to have more than one set of everything, so that you don't need to wash them straight away.

    Gymnasts Choosing meets

My child had three back to back meets for the first time and it was not a fun experience. All they had time for during the week was routines and more routines. It is difficult to see the point of that many meets in such a short period of time, they were all repetitions of each other as there...

WAG Does anyone know what's happening?

You will need to see a doctor. No one here is qualified to answer that (and even if they were they wouldn't be able to tell you anything unless they would be able to examine your ankle

Parents Accepting my child needs to move on from gymnastics

I think the first question to ask is if your daughter is enjoying it? If so, there is no reason for her to need to stop doing gymnastics. While many of us here have competitive gymnasts and a lot of the posts are about that, there is nothing wrong with being a recreational gymnast who has an...

WAG Summer + Low-hours Competitive Gymnastics

Our excel-equivalent teams have a complete break during the holidays (all holidays), although they might start back a bit earlier than the recreational groups. The DP-equivalent teams train year-round except three weeks during summer when they also have a complete break. You can have additional...

WAG Girls moving to different groups

Very common I would say. My daughter's current group has no one that she started pre-team with. Some girls left, others joined, some repeated a level, some went to a different type of program (tumbling/Excel) and she herself did two levels in one season so is ahead of the others.

Coaches Kicking team athletes off the island

Seems to be talk to the athlete, if that doesn't help talk to the parents and and if that doesn't help then out of the club all together. Not sure if they have ever gotten that far. The thing is challenging behaviour is usually caused by something. The athlete might not want to be there, there...

Anon Would you leave a gym?

That is annoying, but not sure if it is more than that and definitely not sure if it would make me want to switch clubs. I guess it depends a bit on whether the club is a good one with a safe environment and whether any decent alternatives were available. If my child was in a good place, I would...

    Parents Um, is anyone else...

No tape for my my 9-yo, but she did get sent to school with a large cut across her forehead and nose after she walked face first into one of the wires of the bars

WAG Where to buy leotards and accessories?

Gymgear in Canada make really soft leotards. Definitely the softest that my daughter has. For the most part she just has cheap ones from Aliexpress, some of which are nice and soft. Most are just standard material and pretty decent for the price. Some are absolutely rubbish though, so worth...

Parents What is your threshold for driving vs. flying to a meet?

We live on an island, so anything outside the island automatically needs flights as the the boat is expensive and slow. If we stay on our island it can be up to a 7 hour drive to the furthest places. Most are within 2 hours though.

Parents Does your gymnast care what event they start on at a meet?

My gymnast doesn't mind starting anywhere. Even if she has an event that doesn't go well at the start, she seems to be able to move on. Personally I prefer it if she starts on beam, that gets my nerves out of the way :)

    ChalkBucket New Site Theme!

Love the clean look, but not a fan of the font at all. Is that something that I can change in my browser settings?
