My daughter has been working on bhs on the beam for a few months now and can usually do it quite nicely. She has unfortunately fractured fingers twice in the last 3 months doing this skill. (First time in early December was a fracture of her index finger and the second time happened a couple...
I have a question about the level 5 dismount on bars. My daughter has been told different things by her different coaches, and I was curious what the "correct" answer to her question is. She turns to her left when dismounting. What are her hands supposed to do? First her right hand. One...
Last year, I was in your exact spot, with my 6 year old about to compete in her first meet. Enjoy every moment of it - before you know it, she will be an old pro at competition! My daughter still LOVES competition, and I think being young has that advantage of not knowing how to "be...
Thanks everyone. The night was a success (I was a scary old lady in a eerie hospital setting)! It was a lot of fun scaring people and yelling at them for not coming to visit me sooner (since I was "dead" by the time they came). Worst part was a very sore throat the next day from screaming and...
I don't know about Australia, but around here it depends on your gym. My daughter's gym does offer privates, but they are pricey. I think most gym kids already spend so many hours in the gym that they don't really need them or just don't have time for privates. Some of my dd's team mates have...
So tomorrow night I am making my debut as an actor in a haunted house! I am typically the person that goes thru a haunted house clinging to the person in front of me and never opening my eyes, so this will be really interesting! Its for the local Jaycees, so a good cause though! Anyone here...
I completely agree with flippin out that "mom" is probably making things worse by being able to communicate with and discipline her child during class. The coaches would probably get a lot more respect and "good" behavior from the child if mom wasn't interfering.
Hi! Welcome to the CB! I am a fairly new gym mom myself, just starting our 2nd year of competition this fall. I have found this forum to be extremely helpful with many knowledgable and interesting members. Don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have. There is so much to learn when you...
I would be extremely proud of any child that makes it. Why make them feel less worthy by insisting that they be singled out and labeled "alternatives"? Every child that tested worked very hard just to have the opportunity to test. I am sure that many girls did not make the team due to an...
A local club had a meet today ( a different league than my daughter competes in). My daughter asked if we could go and watch so that she could cheer the girls on. She said that she always feels better when the audience cheers for her and she wanted to do the same even though she didn't know...
If I figure right, thats ONLY about 10 a day from now until December........YIKES! Wishing you the best of luck! (I am sure they will be beautiful and the girls will love them, though:))
I have learned that it is my daughter's sport, not mine (I think I first heard that here:)). There will always be another meet, another skill to learn, or another child who is "better" then my daughter....but there will be only one "today" so don't dwell on those things and LET THEM BE KIDS.
