Parents Did I ruin my daughters opportunity at a good gym?

Yes first gym put her in a pre-school class and yes she would have been moved up to pre-team hopefully quickly and 10000% yes I should have just realized that’s ok. I panicked because I was naive and the program we were coming from was more intense and she was used to being on pre-team at her...

Parents Did I ruin my daughters opportunity at a good gym?

So at my daughter’s first gym they had a program starting at 3. They selected kids that they felt would be good for team one day. This was based on strength, flexibility, etc. not skill. This program was designed to prepare them for team starting super young. They still wouldn’t compete until I...

Parents Did I ruin my daughters opportunity at a good gym?

Same daughter, this is her first year competing, she is 5 and is being told she will repeat bronze next year at 6. I do appreciate your advice. It’s definitely easy to get caught up in wanting the best of the best at every age. I just want to make sure that if she does love it and wants to go...

Parents Did I ruin my daughters opportunity at a good gym?

Yes same person, yes I have lots of questions and am just trying to help my daughter the best I can. I can’t say for sure if she’s doing “well” on bronze because I legitimately have no idea what that looks like. In the gym she is not behind (except in vault) and on bars, beam, and floor she is...

Parents Did I ruin my daughters opportunity at a good gym?

Yes finding a new gym after a move is tricky especially when I want the best opportunity for my daughter. The first gym (who yes put her in a class with 2 year olds which I agree was weird) told me she was strong but didn’t have the skill level they wanted to see for the next level training yet...

Parents Did I ruin my daughters opportunity at a good gym?

Well I was specifically told one of the girls was 2.5, so I guess this gym had different policies. It was odd which is why we asked for another option. Tracking her towards pre-team is just the best way I know to explain her previous experience. At our first gym (we moved states or else would...

Parents Did I ruin my daughters opportunity at a good gym?

Honestly no I’m not exaggerating they literally told me one of the girls was 2.5, didn’t ask but it was brought up for some reason and I remember it clearly, I believe the oldest after my daughter who was turning 5 in a couple weeks may have been 3, but a young 3. Yes it was odd that’s why I...

    Parents Repeating Bronze?

She seems to be remembering them now that she’s learned them. The execution is ok, but not stellar. I would assume it’s just her age if the whole team wasn’t having similar issues, even older girls. It still could just be her age, but I would feel more comfortable with being told she’s repeating...

    Parents Repeating Bronze?

The routine isn’t that complicated and she can execute the moves. The hours spent at home is mostly referring to the fact that 2 weeks out from her mock meet I asked her to show me her beam routine and she literally told me I don’t know it. So I asked if she could show me what she did know and...

Parents Did I ruin my daughters opportunity at a good gym?

This gym consistently places first in competitions, produces college athletes, and has national qualifiers. While none of that really matters at her age I know a solid foundation does and I’m concerned she’s actually losing the foundation our old gym built at the new gym. I wouldn’t say I was...

Parents Did I ruin my daughters opportunity at a good gym?

Honestly no I’m not super happy with her current gym. She is competing this year, but not doing great. The low scores don’t bother me though and I would expect as much, but she seems to be losing skills she had before we started at our current gym. Everyone loves her at the gym and they are...

    Parents Repeating Bronze?

Thank you, this is definitely one of my concerns with her staying at bronze at her current gym.

    Parents Repeating Bronze?

Yes that is a big concern of mine and I know other parents on the team as well. I really would rather not spend hours at home helping my daughter remember her routine when she should be learning it at practice, but I know the kids that didn’t practice at home didn’t end up knowing it.

    Parents Repeating Bronze?

Unfortunately the gym she is at is newer which is what has me most worried. We were recommended to them by the gym in the area with a great reputation that was closing down their developmental program, but they don’t have a stellar record themselves. They inherited a ton of good athletes and...

Parents Did I ruin my daughters opportunity at a good gym?

my daughter is 5 and has been on the pre-team path since she was 3. Last spring we moved to a new state and had to find a new gym. This was our first time changing gyms and I felt totally overwhelmed and lost. The first gym we tried out was highly recommended, but I felt they didn’t fairly...
