Parents how to know when it's time to retire?

Hi all- Seeking advice on how to support athletes who are starting to think about retiring. My daughter is almost 15 years old and in level 8. Her coach from the past 2 years just got reassigned to a different squad and she's devastated. It's made her start to think about retiring (why does...

Parents Training hours and missing school

Ha! Yes, that is the biggest irony. Both parents MUST work to pay for youth sports, but youth sports expects parents do NOT work, in order to drive them to gym / practices, etc. We do carpools and my daughter also takes the bus often to gym. We somehow make it work... :)

Would you mind sharing the schedule your gymnast has? Thanks!

Parents Training hours and missing school

Hi! My daughter is level 7 and trains 18 hours per week: 3:30-5:30pm 12:30-4:30pm W, Th, F 8:30-12:30 Sun Curious to know how many other gyms have comp training during the day where the athlete is required to miss school? Or do most gyms have training after school? Thanks!

Women Advice for bars and beam for a struggling athlete?

Hi! My daughter is a solid level 8 on the vault and floor. She's a powerful tumbler, but still struggles with her back handspring on the beam and kip cast to handstand on bars (so barely level 7). She's super passionate about this sport - always has been. She works super hard and has never...

    Women Inequitable training hours

Thanks for your reply. There are some athletes in another squad at level 8 that are getting 18 hours / week when my daughter is getting 16 / week as a level 8. Not much of it makes sense, but there's a lot in this sport I don't understand - or like. However, my daughter is 100% passionate and...

Thanks! I appreciate that perspective. We are paying the same hourly rate, not the same flat rate - thank goodness! ha

    Women Inequitable training hours

Thanks. I appreciate your thoughts. And yes, hours go up to 20 for Level 9/10.

    Women Inequitable training hours

Yes, I get that - we live it every day in the gym! :). I guess I just wish the privileged squad could get a taste of that life lesson at some point too. Thanks for your advice.

    Women Inequitable training hours

Hi! I have a question about how gyms handle training hours between squads. At our gym, there is a [seemingly] "favourite" squad who has always had the privilege to get more training hours and special opportunities over other squads at our gym. For example, when the squad was training for level...

    Coaches Appropriate leveling?

I definitely agree with most of what's being said here. And definitely agree it's not necessary to burst the bubble of a hard working gymnast. My daughter is one of those who has tremendous drive, a hard work ethic and intense passion for the sport, but not a lot of "natural" talent. She has to...
