    Parents DP to XCEL

Well you as the parents are the ones who gets to make the final decision whether she does team or not. I will say that the change is big for kids. As for homework my 8 year old who goes 3 days a week (10 hrs but has to stay until older sis is done so 12 hours a week at the gym) does all her...

Parents Intentional placement at lower level?

Could it be that even though she can do Algerian skills she does not have the proper form yet? Form is everything in the lower levels to set them up for future success. She may be able to do a skill but not “right” with good form yet?

    Parents Should we switch gyms?

Level 5 will chew you up and spit you out if you’re not strong on bars Especially in terms of scorings. It’s just a harsh level. There is nothing wrong with Xcel gold so she can work higher skills on her other events while dealing with that straight arm kip. My daughter is in a similar position...

Parents Dealing with disappointment re: group and hours

I told my daughter (whom was disappointed with her summer group placement) that whoever succeeds in this sport is who is most stubborn and never gives up improving. She’s had a stellar summer so far but it’s been a little lonely being the only one in her group working upgrades on every event

Parents Advice for 5 Year Old

I just wanted to say that my younger daughter was similar at that age. However even though her body was ready for more her mind (ability to make corrections) and attention to details was not caught up with her body at age 5. It was closer to 6 that it started coming together.

Parents Slow progress at lower levels

Sounds like you may want to consider taking another look at your schedule and asking if she can move to the level 2 group if she is competing level 2. She has the opportunity to be a leader in that group maybe which will really help her self confidence. At that age being the only one doing of...

Injury Broken arm return to gym timeline

She actually did it at the gym 😬 she tried to do an aerial off a mat stack. Hope you all the best!

Injury Broken arm return to gym timeline

I’m so sorry. My younger daughter broke both bones in her right arm also (age 5) completely thru last year August 1st. It was going to be her first year competing. She did get to come back and start things like hangs and pull ups on bars at the end of October. We saw a sports PT who helped her...

Parents How (and when) do you know?

The ownership has to be hers. She is the one who is the gymnast. It’s so painful to watch as a parent! My 9 year old has just recently figured out that if she works hard at practice (more reps, better effort) and makes corrections, she will get better at gymnastics . And some days she still...

Parents Questioning Coach - Preteam - How to address

I will say this- there is a difference between doing it and doing it competition ready. I didn’t know that until this year. My daughter could do that skill- although her form was inconsistent- and was not able to compete it at all this season because of it. Sometimes the BHS wasn’t long enough...

Parents Asked to leave Xcel bronze?

I guess xcel isn't more intense than I thought. My daughter was put on xcel bronze in May and was just asked to leave this week, not for behavior, not for lack of working hard but because they believe she will be lacking the skills needed to compete all 4 events by January. (She can't really do...
