I’ve witnessed two 10s in the last four years. A L4 beam routine our first year and a L8 yurchenko pike last year. The vault was a thing of beauty. The whole audience was hushed after it waiting for the score. Everyone recognized perfection when they saw it.
The run is not judged in L7. I found this link to be helpful in explaining the new vault timers.

And I’d encourage your daughter to set goals unrelated to scores. She has no control over them. She does have control over sticking a skill, or staying tight on an event etc.
Being small...
We don’t have score out requirements in Canada so she didn’t need to. She competed a flyaway in her first L8 meet but it’s terrible. You can hear her pinging off the bars from across the gym, she always lets go too early.
We don’t have a bar pit either but they worked the underswing off the low...
Mine has had a flyaway block for three years that she is just not getting over. She did L6 last year with an underswing dismount and is doing L8 this year. Her coach worked the toe front dismount with her before Christmas and she's landing it off the high bar already! Now she can forgo the...
We've not been at a gym that had a solid policy of a score in any level to move up. Just because a kid has a 36 in L3 doesn't mean they're going to be successful in L4. Both of the gyms we've been at move up if they have skills or are showing they will be ready in time to compete and can...
We were at a “top gym” and never had regular meetings. I thought it was normal. Parents were not allowed to watch, everyone was terrified to say anything about anything, late schedules, injured kids you name it for fear of it rippling down to our kid’s placement in groups. Our kids didn’t want...
We have three kids and everyone gets to participate in whichever sport or activity they choose but there certainly isn't financial equality there. Oldest is the gymnast, middle kid is a sprinter and boy do I love how cheap track and field is! The littlest dabbles in a bunch of stuff still at...
Different vaults are better for different kids. Whichever vault they do they need a very good run though and fear will always compromise that. Mine had a good FHS and her tsuk is working well for her. She says the yurchenko is easier to flip but she doesn't like it as much.
Mine is a 13 year old about to compete L8 for the first time this year. We live in Canada so the NCAA dream is not something we've ever focused on and no one should be in gym hoping for a scholarship, you're better off ploughing gym tuition into a savings account to pay for college. She won't...
Quick question...how does her mount get counted? Her coach had been checking around because it isn't common and most of the other kids do a press handstand which is a B. She thought her mount would be a C which I know isn't counted as such for a L8 routine but it's harder to do than a press...
They need to fire their headhunter first and foremost! Even I do a quick google search of potential candidates social media when I’m hiring someone and my team is not charged with protecting a vulnerable group of people. She never would have passed the first gate for head of USAG.
