WAG Question for coaches about keeping knees together in BHS

This is simply a matter of curiosity for me. I don't want to ask Kipper's coaches b/c I don't want them to think I am meddling or doubting them. But, I really want to know. At what point do you focus on teaching a gymnast to keep their knees together during BHS series? Kipper has pretty BHS...

Parents UPDATE: 6yo with knee pain

Finally got into an ortho today, and DD has a patellar tendon tear on her left knee. She will need to be in a straight-leg brace for 5 weeks. *sigh* The girl is just so accident prone. This is her 2nd leg injury in the past 7 months. At least this one is a brace and not a cast.

    Parents Knee pain in 6yo?

DD has been complaining about knee pain for the past week. She didn't really injure it. She was running to do vault, and just started limping.... during the run. She went to gym 1x since then, but it started hurting again, so she started icing. I've kept out of soccer since her 'injury' as well...

    Parents Knobby Knees?

Both of my DDs have knobby knees. Even when their legs are locked at the knees, their knees still stick out, making it look like they have bent legs. Their coaches at the old gym mentioned it and this year their new coaches have mentioned that they likely will face deductions for bent knees...

WAG Fluid under the knee cap

*not looking for medical advice* I have quite a bit of fluid underneath my knee cap. We are waiting to see of it drains itself before getting it drained by medical professionals (I have gotten this checked out already so no need to fret). I wouldn't say having fluid under my kneecap is a huge...

    Knees and Hips

Not quite a gymnast question per se but relates to general fitness and such. Being a full time student I have rather bad posture at tables and chairs, leading to my poor back hurting all the time. No worries with that problem, saw my physio a couple of times and got some exercises. Not saying...

    Coaches Knee strengthening exercise

Hi! I have several gymnasts who have had knee injuries during the year. I found one video from youtube which shows a knee strengthening exercise. I tried this by myself and after 5 reps I felt weird pressure feeling (but not pain) in my right knee which has been hurting on and off sometimes...

WAG Hyperextended knees, ankles and elbows

Hey everyone! So I have hyperextended knees, ankles and elbows but not from an injury I think I was just born that way. The thing is, in some gym moves, I get hurt more easily because of it. For example, when doing a back handspring, my elbows really hurt and I have to be careful not to lock my...

WAG I can't take any more knee injuries!

At last practice yesterday one of my gymnasts hyperextended her knee on landing her front tuck step out. It looked painful and when I saw that happen I immeadiately ran to get ice. This gymnasts NEVER complains about anything and she has super high pain tolerance and now when I saw the pain from...

Pain in shoulders, knees, femurs, wrists, lower back, Achilles, calves?

Is it normal to have pain all over after gymnastics and tumbling? I'm just always in pain as long as I'm in the sport. I need skills that hurt my back to make team and pain will not get in the way of my goals. It feels like I tore stuff.

T&T Knee Pain From Double Mini

High I've been experiencing really bad knee pain from jumping (and landing) on double mini, especially when I do front somi or barani mounts. The pain in my knee gets so bad that after training I can't walk and the next day I find it hard to climb stairs. I ice my knee and the pain goes away...

Parents Has anyone's child had or have a baker's cyst behind the knee?

My daughter had a knee sprain, 5 weeks of crutches and 6 weeks of PT. She had an MRI and was found to have a bakers cyst. There is not much to do about it except for ice and motrin. She wears a soft brace and takes motrin before each practice but it kills her. I wonder if she would be better off...

    WAG Knees...

Wow. DD can compete state... then she wakes up with knee pain. She was at a birthday party at a trampoline park yesterday. She says she did a side aerial and her left knee landed on the trampoline pad and hyperextended it. DD has double jointed knees too. To the side of her knee there is...

    WAG new knee injury

it seems as though I have happened upon this years' injury! I hyper-extended my knee and tore a bunch of ligaments and tendons . I am hoping for a fast recovery. This is quite frustrating though!

    Bent knees at takeoff

Hi people, I have a question about "bent knees at takeoff". My question is; should coaches teach gymnasts from the start to have slightly bent knees at takeoff (ex. takeoff on a springboard).. or they should jump onto the springboard with straight legs? Note: At my gym I teach my gymnasts to...

    Knee and ankle braces, AHHH!

SO, to make a long story short, i injured my right ankle november 2011 and have to wear a brace for it. Now, there's a lot of pain in my left knee and need to wear a brace for it, too. the problem is, i would look so weird! haha.. but what should i do, favor one, or look like a cripple? thanks!

    Knee + bad practice rant

Just need to rant to people who get it! I was so angry today at practice (and I'm not one to get super emotional) because I have knee pain which is slowing down my progress, especially on floor and vault! It wasn't my day in general- gymnastics-wise and "regular"- so bars (my best event)...

    Landing On Knees in BHS

Hi all :) I am going to give you some background first. I also wish I had a video to post because I know it makes it a lot easier to give skill advice when there's one. Maybe I will try and take one tomorrow at the gym. My DD has been having issues with her RO BHS for awhile now. My guess that...

    Deduction for knee brace

I competed in a meet last weekend and the weekend before that. At the first meet my scores were (vault bars beam floor) 8.7 8.6 9.3 9.1 and for the second meet I got an 8.2 8.4 8.7 8.9. I thought I did better at that second one and I was wondering why I got so much lower scores this time. I...
