With the new website format, I'm sure a lot of us have noticed the new chat area. While it seems like a really good idea instead of private messaging or writing on their profile there seems to be one problem: No one is on at the same time as any one else!

As odd as it sounds, I think there is one simple thing causing this problem. In order for the chat area to read that you are online you have to be on the chat page (at least I'm pretty sure. Please correct me if I'm wrong). That means that if you are browsing the forums or on a profile you are read unable to chat. That makes it very unlikely that two or more people would be on chat at the same time.

A different chat idea is pretty similar to the Facebook chat format where the chat is at the bottom of the page and stays there when you change pages or scroll down. It just seems more convenient to me.

I will give the following chat solution a shot if enough people are interested:

Link Removed

It is just like Facebook chat and it integrates with our software. The board would have to come up with the $129 for it. If the software causes the site to load slow, it would have to be removed.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

You can always open a new tab for the chat page, so that you can still browse and have the chat page open I'm doing it now and it works. I think it makes a little popping noise when a new message is sent so you'll know when to check. might even flash, but I'm just waiting to see if anyone sends a message before I'll know for sure!

ETA no it doesn't flash, but it does 'pop'

I know I have used chat on the CB for specific thing. I remember the during 2008 Olympics a whole ton of people were in there whilst watching the online coverage of gymnastics. It was fabulous, I made some great friends during those two weeks chatting here. So maybe you could set up a time to meet in the chat room, and see what happens.
