My daughter’s coach who she has been with for many years has suddenly quit, giving the kids no time to say goodbye. My daughter is devastated. How do you help a child with this type of sudden loss?

I’m sorry your daughter is going through this. In my experience, coaches usually leave abruptly because they got a job at another gym, gave 2-weeks-notice, and the gym owner told them they could not come back because they don’t want them to talk to the parents and tell them where they are going. It’s usually pretty upsetting for the coach to be forced to leave without saying goodbye.

It’s hard not knowing what happened. If you have the coach’s email or text info, I’d send them a thank you note. If the coach wants to explain the situation, they can respond to you.

Otherwise, you just have to help your child understand that sometimes people have to move on from a job exits are often awkward. It’s not about her and she will get through this with time.
