Currently, I’m working towards platinum. My noticeable trouble spot is bars. I can’t kip, and my free hip is somewhat there. I’m above or meet the requirements on the other events. I have a meet coming up in November, and I know that I won’t have a bar routine put together by then.

Is it better to scratch bars, go back to gold, or compete a gold bar routine? My coach said it’s up to me, but I don’t want to go into a level where I’m not up to par. I also don’t want to stay in a level where I’d be competing skills way above the requirements.

Do you think you'll have bars eventually? Are you ok with a very low bars score? There's a social factor as well - where are your friends/best teammates? What makes you feel most supported?.
I think I could get bars down in two months. I wouldn’t mind my score, but I’m sure my coaches would if I get those throughout the season. All my teammates are doing three kips in their routines, and a clear hip.

I say scratch bars till you get the Kip. One thing to compete a routine with all the skills there that’s just needs work on fluidity, form etc. but missing requirements isn’t really worth competing the routine at that point and getting disappointing results.

I say compete bars. You know that you will score low until you get your kip, but anything is better than 0.000 ... and there is a courtesy score of 4.000, so that would be the lowest you would get.
My YG competed Platinum with a sometimes kip and NO clear hip ... and only sometimes had a cast above horizontal. Her scores ranged from 6.100 to 8.200 during that time.
LSS has a kip, but no clear hip and rarely has a cast above horizontal. Her scores have ranged from 6.600 to 8.350 so far. She will be competing Platinum again (wanted to go back to Gold due to being injured for almost a year with various injuries, but her petition was denied).
You can do your best competing basically a Gold routine, with a clear hip on high bar so you don't need to kip out of it.
