Anon Email responses from college coaches

How significant (if at all) is it to get personal responses from college coaches during the recruiting process. DD has been back and forth with several coaches at schools she's really interested in, but I can't tell if they reply to everyone and it's not much of a sign of anything. FTR, she's looking at D2/D3 and Ivies, and the best response so far has been with a couple of Ivy League coaches. Not looking at D1 scholarships.

It means they are interested, but she's not at the very top of their list. Kind of like - they are keeping her in the mix/keeping her warm, perhaps while they focus on other, higher-priority recruits. It may be that they are waiting to see how she improves/what else she does, or it may be that they are waiting to see what others do/decide.

For ivies, even though their process is later, they will still talk with people on 6/15. I think my daughter had calls on 6/15 with all of the ivies that she had reached out to. But don't despair if she's not getting calls yet. The process is wacky and things change, and at least some of the people who end up getting offers and committing will be those who were back burnered early on.

I can't speak to the DII/DIII part.

I don’t know if this is helpful, but my friend is an Ivy coach in another Olympic sport. They are moving slower than usual on 2026s as they wait to figure out who will still be in the mix for Ivies if and when roster limits are settled. And transfer volume this year is adding to that uncertainty. All the transfer movement you see now at Ohio State, Maryland, Mizzou, Cal, etc. will take a while to trickle down to each layer of teams below those.

Emails are just one part of the whole picture. Emails alone are not too indicative of anything. Coupled with Instagram follows, club visits, mail, etc. and a strong picture develops. So if several of those things are all happening then you have a better sense of where you might stand in their recruiting list.

In regards to when to send out mails? Our coach prior to the season took the 2027s aside and asked for their target colleges. The coaches then called the programs directly and began a conversation regarding the gymnast and their interest in the program, sending videos, giving background information, etc. The coach then coordinated if there was mutual interest for mail, club visits etc. If you are in the upper tier of your recruiting class (4 star, maybe even a very high 3 star to 5 star) I am not sure you need to worry too much about sending out emails. There is enough videos online, etc that email has almost become archaic. And if you are not, then you are probably a tier B or C recruit. I would wait till June 15 when colleges can directly speak to you.
