I'm xcel gold, hoping to be platinum next season. I'm pretty close on most events to platinum, but I'm most worried about my vault. I do a front handspring on, but I pike over a ton. In meets I'm getting mid to low eights. One of my teammates pointed out that I'm already piking on the board, and my coaches have said I need to go higher, and block. I'm having a really hard time figuring out how to fix those things, and I'm still really piking and can't seem to fix it. Some of it is that I have a hard time with my stepping, wanting to start farther back, but I'm already against the wall and can't go any farther. My gym doesn't really do drills, and I joined the team/gymnastics later, and I missed a lot of the progression stuff by skipping pre-team. Any tips? Drills I can do on my own? Extra conditioning? I really want to get better at this, so I can score better, and move up to platinum. I would show a video, but my parents don't like that for privacy reasons. Any help would be appreciated!

If you are piking at the board you probably need to try to move your feet in front of your hips when doing the step onto the board. That would probably be the first thing to try. You can try that just doing one step onto the board and freeze, making sure your hips and shoulders are directly over your feet. Also doing heel lifts lying somewhere can also help.
