hi,
so on sunday, i sprained my thumb and it got swollen to about 2 .5 times normal size.
i have a competition on next sunday ( the 27th) so i tried training on thursday. today is friday and it hasn't healed copletly yet. i can do every event exept for bars. are there any ways to make a sp[rained thumb heal faster????
please help!!!

stick it in a glass of ice water. no more than 20 minutes. then soak same way in very, but not scalding, hot water until the thumb thaws out.

You need to massage it, good massage. If you can get some physical therapy, ultra sound on it that be even better.

This isn't what you want to hear:

Thumbs take forEVER. Go to your doc. Don't be too surprised if they send you to a hand specialist or hand therapy.

*dislocated a thumb a year ago, & it just now feels ok, still looks funny*

I have to go with Bog on this one. I fell on a finger a few months ago and didn't bother to get it checked out and it still gives me trouble from time to time. Just play it safe, see a doctor, and I'm sure he/she will be able to tell you exactly what to do to make it feel better and heal properly. In the meantime, ice certainly won't hurt.
