I was trying to get my DD to tryout for her high school gymnastics team, but she was worried about not being good enough or having not high enough skills. Her main problem is that she can not do a back handspring. For club gymnastics, she mainly front tumbles and her back tumbling pass Is usually a front tuck step out round off layout or round off full. Would her not having a back handspring affect her ability to be put on a high school team? What tumbling passes should she be working on if she is not planning on competing a back handspring? Thank you.

As long as she has a salto, she should be good. Some hs teams don’t even require gymnastics experience at all to be on a team

It really depends on the state and even the specific school. It's not one set of rules that are used. Generally if you google high school gymnastics whatever state you'll be able to find the rules. Alternatively, you can email the coach which should be on the school's athletic website and ask what kinds of skills they're looking for.
