I had my meeting tonight where me, my mom, and my coach talk about the season, our goals, and whether or not we will move up. My season was kind of difficult for me (I had a lot of pains, thought about quitting, and didn't have the best communication with my coaches), so I was really nervous for it. It turned out pretty well, though. There are only a few skills I still need, but my coach said I shouldn't have any problem getting them (but I'm not so sure about my bwo bhs..lol). So I guess that means I'm moving up! I've assumed pretty much all season long, but it's nice to hear my coach say it.. lol. So does anyone else know if you/your DD is moving up yet? And do other gyms have meetings too?? Just curious.. :)

DD hasn't had states yet (in two weeks), but we've been told after we will have meetings. The base move ups on a lot of things - where they are now in their skills, which skills they have already gotten and are competing, attitude in the gym. I think she'll do fine and get moved up, but it's up to the coaches and we respect that. I'm sure if they think you are ready, you'll do great. DD actually went from bwo bwo to bhs bhs, she found it easier. Just keep working hard and enjoy the uptraining.

That's great. Congrats to you on moving up. We don't have meetings, I wish we did. Both of my daughters are repeating their current levels. My younger DD needs to repeat, older DD on the other hand...I wish she had the chance to move up! Good luck on getting that BWO BHS!

Thats great that you guys have meetings like that..we dont. Also good to hear your coach say you should be ready for level 8 next season. I know that you basically already have your floor. So not to much more for you to go. Good luck on the bwo bhs! It is a tricky one and you might feel like bhs bhs is better for you :)

Congrats! Glad the coach knows you're ready for level 8. Our girls have their meetings after Nationals/Westerns--typically anyway. They don't make the final decision on what level they compete until fall--after working new skills all summer. My own daughter will almost certainly repeat level 9. She had a good year, but she'd like to have a great year!

I like the idea of meetings. We don't have that implemented formally. The coach caught me while walking in and told me DD would be moved to level 6. She then met with her seperately and told her she really needed to focus and pay attention to her form and tightness if she wanted to do well next season (this is something she seems to always struggle with).

Congratulations on the move up! We are still in-season at the moment. We did have a meeting with the HC at the end of August/beginning of September last year about where dd stood (this meeting did NOT include dd, it was just parents and HC.) Not sure if there will be meeting this year or not, HC changes her mind like the wind blows. I hope she does it again though because it was very informative and I knew exactly where dd stood and what HC was thinking.

Congrats on the great news! I like the idea of formal coach/athlete meetings to discuss progression, chances of moving up, areas that need improvement, etc. It really eliminates all of the guesswork on the part of the parents and gymnasts and makes the coaches more accountable for their actions and decisions, just meaning that it's harder for them to keep less than honest intentions hidden.
Good luck with the bwo-bhs! It was a hard one for me to get as a gymnast, but your bwo-bwo series and standing bhs are much more solid than mine ever were, so I'm sure you'll catch on in no time.

I'm pretty sure I'm moving up next year (which doesn't happen very fast here because there are only 5 levels so there is a lot more variety in each level). No meetings yet but my coach has been dropping hints like for flyaway full : You won't compete twisting this year because as soon as you start to twist the layout you loose your bonus, but next year you will need it for sure. And a lot of other hints on skills like that. I currently compete P3 (level 7/8) and would be moving to P4, and would be the first and only one in our gym to ever compete P4 (not sure what USAG level it would be.)
