So, I started watching the Minnesota at Illinois meet on the Big 10 network. Missed the first 4 rotations but came in time to see a good crowd, student cheering section, AND a pep band! love seeing people get excited for MAG!!

What did you think of the experimental format? I did not see it, but I did see an interview with Justin Spring.

I didn't get to watch the whole thing, but from what I saw it was very interesting. It is 5 up, 5 count. So, no using the highest scores. Plus, it added a strategy to the whole thing as the coaches were trying to figure out who to put up next. The home team would go first, and then you would see the away coach figuring out which gymnast he thought could beat that score. I think it was more spectator friendly as they weren't watching for scores, etc, just who won that point.

I didnt like the format, but there are guys from our gym on the Minnesota team. It looks like they did awful based on the final results. Its probably because of that. Scorewise, Illinois would have won has well, so luckily it wasn't just because of the format.

I wonder how much longer the meet was with this format also? It seemed so slow!

My favorite part was seeing our guys on TV, which would have been the case with any format. My least favorite part was that it was on so late, my little guys couldn't watch it on tv.

Yeah. I taped it so D can watch it tonight. He can't wait.

I DO like the fact that every score counts. There is no rescue.....if you have a bad routine, there is no falling back on the next guy. I also loved listening to the coaches figure out who could beat whom. I don't think it took any longer. It was an hour and a half on tv, and I think the meet we went to was about 2 hours give or take.

I believe the every score counts was a change this weekend for every meet, not just this 'experimental format.'

Oh, the other thing is that going into highbar, Illinois had already won the meet. That must have been really hard for the Minnesota guys. I know that when a team is far superior that happens, but Illinois is not far superior than Minnesota, it just looked like that here. Illinois is the better team, for sure, especially with CJ, but Minnesota is pretty good as well.
