Hi I'm a male gymnast and I was using the Iron cross trainer when I started to feel sternal pain that wouldn't go away. It eventually went away for about 3 weeks when it came back from a injury where I compressed my chest in a weird way when I messed up a half-pirouette on pbars. Now its been over 50 days without it completely healing(luckily I have no passive pain when doing nothing now). I have avoided all chest exercises for the past 30 days and did other exercises such as curls and pullups (did pullups depending if it hurt or not)yet when i tried the same cross trainer exercise 50 days after my second sternal injury it still hurt. I highly suspect this is costochondritis but my suspicion is that it has something to do with my pectus excavtum despite it being minimal. My theory is that since there is a severe inbalance of muscle size with my inner chest(area surrounding sternum) being basically invisible and my outerchest being abnormally large(area around and near my shoulders).or the fact that my back chest is caved in it could've caused excess tension which may have caused this injury, or a combination of both. And yes I despite not having much muscle I still did this without overstraining as I used a box and the lowest setting on the cross trainer which I was able to do it properly. I've tried heat therapy a couple times but hasn't had any help. Additionally, I have been unable to do Pbars, Rings and, Pommels as it would start hurting when I put chest tension depending on how my chest was feeling, and im also basically stuck on highbar and basic conditioning because of another injury in my back making it iffy when i want to tumble or vault. Do you guys think its from my caved in chest? Should I consider a surgical/semi-surgical treatment such as a nuss procedure or focus on building back strength to counteract back? Will I be able to train iron cross and iron cross variations in the future after/if the injury heals somehow? And finally is there anything else I can do to help it heal faster? Comp season is in 60 days I have a lot I need to make up for. Additional possible helpful info: 15~ y.o., lvl 8 optionals
Thank you!
