Ugh; my DD (9 yo) has been limited by what was originally diagnosed as a sprained wrist, but may be a ligament tear. Waiting to get an MRI and confirm. This is a TFCC injury. Anyone have any experience with these? My web searches scare me.

She is so sad-- first optional competition this weekend and she is out of commission. :(

Unfortunately not a good injury.....my son went through this and suffered a great deal with it before it was diagnosed properly. Initially is was a sprained, or hurt wrist. Went to get an X-ray, and it was negative. It still bothered him a lot and, granted men's equipment is much worse for wrists, pommel, parallel bars and rings.....but TFCCs are very painful as the joint is inflamed and tender all the time. Even for opening door knobs of brushing teeth!
So 3 months of pain, MRI showed TFCC so he was casted up to his bicep for 6 weeks.....nothing.......still pain. Second MRI after 6 months post injury showed a un healed fracture of the ulnar styloid.....it never fused and the only option was surgery, or quit gymnastics.
9 months later, he had surgery, then casted again......3 months after that he was back in the gym. The entire injury lasted about 1 year, 6 months to catch up.
Take your TIME with this injury.....rushing it will make it much worse. If I could go back in time, I would have gone to a hand specialist right away and taken 3 months off his hand 100%.

I'm so sorry for her.........she IS out of commission, and you must take this injury very seriously.....but I know if you do it right, she will be better in a few months.
Oh yeah, VERY IMPORTANT!!!! find a great PT! we had a hand specialist in physical therapy as well and she was the best!!!!

Oh my goodness; what a journey! Sounds like he has come through on the other side, I am glad to hear. We are in to a good pediatric hand specialist tomorrow and hopefully an MRI. I'll PM more. Thank you for sharing your experience.
