    Parents Preschooler Afraid

Hello! My 4 year old daughter started gymnastics last week. This is her first "activity " that is separate from me. She separated just fine and did stretches, but when they got to somersaults she freaked out and while she did go back, was essentially done. Now she's saying she doesn't want to go...

Anon How many times do you have to do a skill to stop being afraid of it?

I have struggled a lot with back handsprings off and on, mostly due to injuries, family issues that made me miss practice, and bad coaching(happened many times over 4 years, in that order. The bad coaching was the hardest thing to get past because I stopped practicing it because I wasn’t allowed...

Anon My son is now fearful and afraid of a coach

I’ve been a member of ChalkBucket since early 2021 and have multiple children in team gymnastics. I’m posting this in the anonymous section due to the sensitivity of the topic and to protect my children from any unintended attention. About a month ago a concerning incident happened at our...

WAG Protocol for competing a kid that is sloppy? Or afraid?

What is your gym's protocol for sending kids out to compete? Our gym requires you to have every skill in your routine, no spot, in order to compete that event. Otherwise, you scratch that event. This year we're faced with a unique situation. We have two level 4s who are TERRIFIED of bars. They...

Parents My DD afraid of coaches

My DD is scared to talk to her coaches! My DD said she landed wrong the other night at practice and was afraid to talk to her coaches because she didn't want to "get in trouble". She also said she didn't want to cry because she would have gotten in trouble for that too! So now, she's babying...

WAG Need a new gym and DD is afraid of bars. what to do?

Hi everyone. DD is a level 6 and decided to leave gymnastics after falling on her head while doing a cast to flyaway. After a few weeks of her crying and regretting the decision to leave gymnastics, we are now in the process of finding a new gym. She doesn't want to go back to her old gym...

WAG We have grips......that are still too big, I'm afraid!

These are DD brand new grips. Bulldog, kipper, size 0. They are still way too big, right? She says they feel better than the others that she has tried. Any suggestions on some that fit even smaller??

WAG CGM confession- afraid of DD getting hurt out of gym

My DD was just invited to an ice skating party and I'm terrified (for no good reason) that she'll hurt herself. I'm letting her go of course, because I know I can't and shouldn't put my DD in a bubble. But I really wish they were just watching a movie. I know I need to let my 8 year old live...

WAG SAFE stretches for back - afraid of injuries! Please help!

Are there any stretches for the back and the shoulders, that are safe (after warm up!)? I am very flexible, so is my back and shoulders, I can stick my head between my feet, but as I am already 21, I want to cut down on doing walkovers, especially the front ones, although they look sooo nice...

WAG I'm afraid to finish my skills! Help!!!

I can do my kip but every time I start to finish it I make a decision to jump off the bar and then I immediately regret it... same thing with beam skills. I'm not afraid of falling, I'm "afraid" to finish/land them. Does anyone know any tricks to get me to want to finish them?

Coaches Afraid of jumping to high bar...

One of my level 4s is terrified of jumping o the high bar and catching. She's done: 1. Squat on jump touch (she'll jump and touch no matter how far/close the bars are) 2. Squat on, stand up, reach to hollow stand holding high bar 3. Jump from block and catch the bar. Etc... She's says she is...

    Parents Afraid of coaches?

I didn't want to hijack the "asking for a meeting" thread but someone's post interested me. Someone mentioned being afraid of the coach and I've actually read that sentiment being expressed several times here. So I've got to ask, why are some parents afraid of the coach? Do they yell? Make...

    afraid of handsprings on beam

About a year and a half ago I missed both hands doing two connected backhandsprings on beam. Since that I haven't been able to do them on the high beam again. I can do them over and over on the low beam, but as soon as I get up on the high beam I freeze. I need some drills or tricks or anything...

Coaches Level 7 afraid of giants - struggling on bars

I have an "older" Level 7 (freshman in high school) that has struggled for several years now on giants on bars. Meanwhile her skills on the other events continue to accelerate. Parents DD moved up and I'm afraid she's in over her head!

Hello! This is my first post here! DD and DS were involved with gymnastics in TN before we were relocated to Canada. The gym we were at was excellent and my two were really on a great track. We moved to a small town in Ontario. They have a gym here, it is competitive but not near as nice. It...

    Being afraid to say something…

Are you ever afraid to complain about something at your gym or even ask a question because you don’t want to be branded a troublemaker and have that reflect poorly on your kid? Honestly, I’m even a little afraid to type this here. What if the gym owner reads this board and has identified...

Parents My Daughter is Afraid of What??

So I am sure most every mom here would say this, but my daughter is a daredevil... heck that's why she likes gymnastics right? She's been training L5 since the beginning of the year and she has a meet coming up shortly as we compete a Spring and Fall/Winter season. She really wanted to compete...
