My dd is preparing to score out of Level 5 (our gym doesn't compete 5) She is currently having a bit of a mental block on her BWO on beam. It's a skill that she has done in the past but has sporadically caused some fear. She used to have a very flexible back so it has always looked good. But...
So I just got my backwalkover :) so happy! But one thing I want to work on is straightening my legs in it so if you have any tips so I can still complete the kickover part without losing the power with straight legs I’d be grateful thank you!
Just curious, I already have my front walkover but not my back walkover. Many people seem to find back walkovers easier than front walkovers and I’m not too sure why if you can do both, which did you find easier and why? :)
my daughter finally got her BWO on beam after a huge mental block and then ended up in a boot for a stress fracture for 4 weeks and didn’t do that skill. Out of the boot now her BWO is so crooked! She is lifting her leg up and her hips twist every single time. Any suggestions on drills or...
I understand the concept of learning bridges and back walkovers... but offering the clinic to girls as young as 3??? That is just crazy!! PLUS, there will be "independent" stations - with 3 year olds!
A recipe for disaster, imho.
Hi everyone!
I have a few questions about back walkovers. I can do the splits, a front walkover, and a backbend kickover. When I go into my back walkover, I can do the first part where I do a backbend on one foot but then I can't kick over from there immediately when my foot hits, but when I...
Can anyone explain to me why a BWO on beam is harder than a BHS on beam? My D says that this is just a fact and she doesn’t understand why it doesn’t make sense to me.
To me, a BHS seems harder because they’re completely leaving the beam. Is the relative difficulty something that varies from...
my 10 yo daughter is in her 2nd year as a 4 and is so so fearful of the BWO on beam. She cannot even begin to think of doing it on the high beam by herself and her coaches do not spot beam. I have downloaded some doc Ali's meditations on fear but she doesn't seem to like them so much. I don't...
Hi, I hope you don't mind, I posted this in the UK forum, but it's pretty quiet in there, so I've put it in here as well, and I'm hoping the rules in other countries are the same as the UK.
Just a technical question. If you start the bwo on beam without lifting the leg first, does it still...
Hi everyone, just a technical question. If you start the bwo on beam without lifting the leg first, does it still count as a bwo? ie if you basically do the bridge part mostly on two legs and then kick over (in one fluent motion) if that makes sense? Thanks!
So my bean continues to struggle with the BWO on beam. She is able to do the BHS on the high fatter beam and standing tuck but her coach wants a consistent BWO. Dd has so much power anf combined with her ADHD just cant seem to consistently slow herself down and usually launches herself to side...
Hi!
For a front walkover, I keep putting my phone down in the middle/towards the end of when I am standing up. How do you keep your foot from touching the ground when you are coming up? I can do a front limber also.
For a back walkover, I can do a backbend kickover on the floor. However, how...
So a while back, when my sister was about 5 or so, (9 now), she took classes at our gym. However, she was really hyper (due to ADHD which was undiagnosed at the time), and quit. She switched to cheerleading. We've taught her a bhs which only took her a few months to get it on the couch and move...
I am new to CB and to the world of gymnastics. My 7 year old is on pre-team currently (level 1-2 equivalent) and we are not yet sure what the plan for her is going to be come June. We are still waiting to hear. She has done very well on pre-team, she is one of the stronger kids and does very...
So I have noticed DD looking very "lazy" lately at practice on beam (skipping stations, long bathroom breaks, etc.) -- and finally mentioned it last night before bed. Boy was that a mistake! The water works started, and DD (age 8) announced she wants to quit gymnastics because she is afraid to...
So, I need help from experienced parents. My DD continues to have a fairly significant Beam BWO block. I stopped at the end of practice and watched her spend more time sitting and staring into the abyss that doing her drills. I was irate!
First, I am not upset that she isn't getting the...
After reading some horror stories here about back problems as a result of beam back walkovers, I wanted to get some input on dd. I'm not an expert but to me it seems like she doesn't have the best shoulder flexibility. I've seen from reading here that kids with less shoulder flexibility tend...
Wellllll, I think I have read everything about fears and vestibular issues and how to get over them. I think this is the hardest part in coaching gymnastics, trying to stay calm and act like it's not a big deal and it's going to get fixed and it's not the end of the world. It's just so hard to...
