Gymnastics Levels Explained
This page is to help everyone better understand the levels in the women's Development Program (a.k.a. DP or Dev Program / formerly JO or Junior Olympic Program). For the purposes of this article... the program will be divided into 4 sections as shown below...

Developmental Levels

Level 1 Gymnastics

While Level 1 can be competed... it is not competed in most states. The skills in this level are used by most clubs for their recreational gymnastics programs.


Level 2 Gymnastics

Level 2 is a very basic level that allows beginner gymnasts the time they need to form a solid foundation of strength and basics. This is a compulsory level in which all gymnasts do the same routines... those routines are below.

Minimum age: 5
Prerequisite score: None
Mobility score to Level 3: None

Compulsory Levels

Level 4 Gymnastics

Level 4 is the first required level in the Developmental Program. This means that gymnasts must earn a minimum mobility score of a 34.0 all-around at a sanctioned competition in order to pass to Level 5. There is also a new rule that states that a gymnast my pass from Level 4 directly to Level 6 if they have achieved two 36.0 all-around scores at Level 4.
