For Parents Dropping out of Pre-Team?

You shouldn’t focus on her height and build - plenty of tall girls and stockier built girls in optionals. All the other girls might be tiny stick figures right now but they won’t be after puberty (for the most part). That being said, she’s 6 and she’s in preteam. You’re not at the stage of...

For Parents Level 10, college gymnastics team recruiting

A teammate of my kids just graduated - competed level 10 her junior and senior year, that’s it. Didn’t make it to Nationals, but scored really well this year (last year was a learning curve). She got a walk-on spot to a smaller D1 team and confirmation that she will make line ups early on...

For Parents Should I continue to push dd to switch gym—-level 9 — incoming high schooler— goal : college team

She’s going into high school - don’t move her this year if you intend to move her. The combination of starting high school and changing gyms is likely to make her quit

OT Height observations: Gym vs. "outside world"

My daughter is hovering around the 50th percentile and is a tall gym person, short regular person lol. It’s very weird

For Parents How can I figure out if my daughter is still into this? The pressure is on…

What?? That’s stupid, no one needs 20 hours a week to learn to do a cartwheel on the floor and a pullover. For level 2, we did closer to 20 hours a MONTH

For Parents My tall girl just made the team

Ding ding! It’s a lot easier to spot a small short person than a tall person, especially if your coaches are female and likely short themselves

For Parents How can I figure out if my daughter is still into this? The pressure is on…

We have gym camp too, which cost a fortune and she’s injured for. She was also supposed to go to a college camp, and she’s injured. I lost a crap ton of money this week. Unfortunately mine never complains about her mental blocks or about the long hours. So I’d just be an asshole if I pulled her...

For Parents How can I figure out if my daughter is still into this? The pressure is on…

Hey I feel you - I also hate many aspects of this sport, the constant stream of injuries, the cost, the hours... like you said, the pressure. My 4th grader did 20 hours a week during the school year, I felt bad for her, but worst for the 2nd grader in her level. I'm just preparing myself to...

Anon Seeing other teams at meets

Closer to the meet dates, you’ll be able to see which teams are competing at that meet. We moved gyms and had one meet that overlapped with our old gym. Both gyms coaches are friends so they where chatting with each other while my daughter was standing with her coach. Her teammate skipped this...

    WAG $500+ competition leo!?!?

We pay over 400 for Leo and warm ups,x and we have to buy a new set each year. Every gym I’ve been at, check is always made out to the gym, never the apparel company

Anon Parents: If you knew then what you know now....

Solid no. Besides all the other issues, my kid is constantly in a state of injury. Her ankle got better, she jacked up her knee 2 days later. Brace and crutches. I’m frustrated for her, she was supposed to go to camp, to enjoy the light hearted side of gymnastics instead of the daily grind...

WAG Is there a reason to do HS BHS vs BWO BHS?

I know most of the gyms around us have a "preferred" series - but if someone can't do that series for some reason they change it, i.e. we have a girl doing a roundoff series because she won't go backwards, mine doing a HS because she won't do a BWO

WAG Is there a reason to do HS BHS vs BWO BHS?

I'm so sorry to hear that!!! I'm very happy mine isn't doing a BWO, her BHS is very solid and I don't want her stressing her back needlessly. I just thought BWO BHS was the standard series and at most they will amend it to accommodate specific individuals, but at our other location, HS BHS is...

WAG Is there a reason to do HS BHS vs BWO BHS?

She’s doing it because the BWO was hard on her back and she preferred the BHS, she only did a BWO to score out of 5 and that’s it. We had some girls compete BWO BWO but it wasn’t common, a few competed BHS. I think maybe the other locations coach might just be reducing impact on backs then...

WAG Coaches, what do you think of parents that watch the entire practice?

I’m not American, I live here mildly begrudgingly because my husband wanted to return home, so I have some -strong- feelings on what is actually regulated here. And I don’t trust the schools either, not because of the shootings, that’s a separate issue but because they don’t always run...
