I spoke with the coach and she said she would allow it because she agrees dd may just need a slightly different technique to get the skills she is falling behind on. She did say this should only be a temporary thing. I was surprised she was so open to it actually. I think our coaches are just...
Also I plan to ask her coach before doing anything but just wondered if it was even possible. Her gym does allow kids to attend camps and clinics at other gyms so I think they will be okay with it as long as I get approval first.
Hi all,
I was wondering if there is such a thing as a private coach for gymnasts similar to Coach Up for other sports. I understand it may be more taboo in gymnastics than in other sports to get private lessons outside the gym. I recall reading a post at least a year ago on this forum about a...
Hi all,
Its been a while since I posted. As some may recall my daughter is a 7 year old level 3. She had her last competition (gym doesn't do level 3 states) so now she is focusing on up training and learning level 4 skills. We will most likely be moving to RI as my husband has been...
Thank you @raenndrops . I guess it is better to do the skill with a spot than to omit a skill altogether as I am assuming then it would be full value of skill plus 0.5 for the spot?
My daughter is also 7 and training level 3 and this sounds a lot like our situation. There are 10 girls on her team and the coaching ratio is usually 10:2 but there are definitely days (or portions of practice) where it is 10:1. My dd also finds the 10:1 ratio hard as she is expected to work...
What a great ending (or should I say beginning) to her story. We went through something similar last winter so her journey really hit home. I am so glad it all worked out. Best of luck to her with the new gym and a coach who believes in her.
First of all take a deep breath. These things have a way of working out. I would say at this point it makes the most sense to try the gym that you have decided to switch to and see how it goes. Give it some time and maybe the commute and family commitments will fall into place. If it seems like...
I think the only reason my dd was moved to train level 3 is because she is very strong. Her flexibility is not great but the coach seems to think she can work with that and mentioned she thinks it's easier to work on flexibility and that natural strength is an advantage. Not sure though...
My dd is also going to be training Level 3 this summer and I feel exactly the same way. Like I could have written the post!! In my head I am like "point your toes, straighten your legs" etc. I don't say it out loud to her but it is so hard not to lol. I also feel like coach corrects only some of...
I see. There are 12 girls on dd's pre-team and for roughly 8 of them, dd included, right split is the preferred side. My dd doesn't have left all the way down. Do all level 3 floor routines require right splits? Or left splits? What if a girl has right all the way down but not left, or...
Interesting post. Good luck to your dd in finding the right fit for her. My dd is still new to gymnastics so haven't thought about this yet. I notice they do practice splits all 3 ways and they have them practice cartwheels with their "bad side" too. My dd only has split all the way down with...
Well I hate to bring this post back to life again (really) but I am so proud of my dd. She was told she couldn't try out for team at her original gym but she didn't let it get her down. On the advice of many of you we switched gyms. At the new gym she simply worked hard and it paid off...
Exactly @Sk8ermaiden ! My dd is exactly the same way. She is 7 and still developing body awareness! She also CAN show bursts of power in her run, she just doesn't always do it. Funny because my dd is also very strong on bars and beam.
Yes it was based on her vault runs only. At the time she wasn't really doing any tumbling other than round offs. I just found it interesting that she was labeled slow twitch and not allowed to try out for team. Does it really matter? I don't think so. She just needs a coach who will teach...
