    Off Topic I quit

Did OP ever flat out say they asked their parents for $770 for a puppy? I’m genuinely asking because it sounds like they themselves are in the process of saving up $700 for the puppy, and are considering asking their parents to help to pay $70 for just the ice skates. I do agree on paying the...

Parents Gymnast asked not to return

Can't speak for all gyms but I can speak from personal experience. My first gym sent an email asking what my future plans are with the gym after finding out I was trying out at a new one. As soon as I left, a few of my old teammates told me the owner said how he never wants me back and how...

Parents Is It Time To Move On? (Tell Us Your Story)

100%. I remember crying to my mom telling her what he said. She wanted to tell him off but I told her not to in fear of being kicked out (which definitely wouldn't have happened, but hey I was 10 and my brain was going haywire). I had told my coach what happened the following practice and she...

Parents Is It Time To Move On? (Tell Us Your Story)

I'll try to make this as short as possible lol. I started gymnastics at the age of 10 in a rec class. My dream was to be on a competitive team, but we couldn't afford that so I chose to stay in the rec class and learn what I could. In a few months I had advanced to level 4 rec and I still...

    Coaches ADHD gymnast

Wow that's scary! That's extremely dangerous if she's spacing out in the middle of her skills. I'd bring it up to her parents immediately. I wouldn't risk the chance of her injuring herself any further. Also not a coach at the moment but I was on ADHD meds as well when I was younger and what...

Parents How do you handle “injuries”

I don't think it'll hurt to have it checked out, ankle injuries can be tricky. Have you asked her to point out specifically where the pain is? Or how it feels? (Achy, throbbing, sharp, etc) That way you have an idea on what the problem could possibly be. I did have a foot injury around a year...

Anon Why did your child start gymnastics?

I always did a lot of flips when I was younger and would hang off the shower bar at 2. Couldn't afford it at the time, but when I was 9, my mom signed me up for a rec class at a local gym. To make a long story short, I shot up to level 4 rec in a few months, got invited to team, and couldn't...

    Coaches Getting back into coaching

Thank you so much! That was also my concern too when I first started. As silly as it sounds I felt so intimidated by the younger kids I wasn't sure how I was going to make sure there'd be no chaos but after like 5 minutes I totally forgot why I was even worried in the first place lol.

I believe that's what I did at my old gym, I'll have to call a few gyms and get in touch! Thank you so much!

    Coaches Getting back into coaching

Hey all! As the title says, I've been wanting to get back into coaching again. I'm 18, and did gymnastics for 7 years. I was a level 7 and training level 8 up until 2021. I have some experience in coaching, as I did work with preschool, rec, and team levels 4 and 5 for almost a year also back...

    Parents Airtrack Reccomendation

I don't have any recommendations but I do have some advice: From my person experience, please PLEASE do not get an air track if it's not to be used in a gym under a coach's supervision. My friend had one and I taught myself a skill that caused horrible habits that was nearly impossible to get...

    Parents Unpopular Opinions

Not a coach nor gymnast anymore, but I do have a few! 1. Leotards are heavily overpriced. Not really a unpopular opinion, but I was so tired of seeing solid color practice leos with sequins for $45+ 2. Anymore than 14-16 hours/week is too much. At my old gym, we had 12hours/week for levels...

Parents Should I continue to push dd to switch gym—-level 9 — incoming high schooler— goal : college team

Was going to comment on this too. Definitely not "too old". Had a coach who was in his 70s, was one of the best coaches in the gym. Was a great spotter too.

Parents Should I continue to push dd to switch gym—-level 9 — incoming high schooler— goal : college team

It sounds like your daughter is at a good gym with coaching methods that work for her! I'd say have another talk with your daughter to reevaluate what her current and future goals are. Is she willing to change gyms for a better chance of getting a college scholarship? Or is she more comfortable...

Coaches Coaching ideas for teaching a child with autism

Hi! I was diagnosed with autism when I was 4 and started gymnastics when I was 9 or 10. As the previous person said, autism affects everyone differently so what may work for one kid may not work with another, and I definitely agree with having a talk with the parent(s) so you have an idea on...

    Parents Quitting Gymnastics

Could your daughter possibly feel intimidated by the new gymnast? With both of them being the same age /level and your daughter substaining an injury, it does sound like that's what your daughter may be feeling and why she wants to quit. I think guiding your daughter to focus more on herself...

    Parents Problems sleeping

Been down that road before, definitely is a struggle that we don't hear getting talked about too much. We tried melatonin gummies for kids, but found that to have almost no effect, so we had a talk with our doctor and we went from there, so I'd say do that. We did find that diffusers and...

    Parents Overlooked

I know you're not looking into changing gyms, but I'd say book it and never look back!!! If there are some gyms around your area that are far better than the current one you're at now, you should check them out. It'll be a lot better than wasting your time at a gym with horrible coaches.

    Parents GK Leotard

From my experience GK leos can be a hit or miss. Their sizes can be all over the place. Sometimes it solely depends on the fabric, but I would say an axs would be worth a try, even an adult small could be a lot better (even if it has a bit of growing room) If you're looking for leos that...
