Honestly, it doesn’t matter what we think, with all due respect. The coach makes those decisions. The coach knows the athlete well, I’m assuming. Maybe she’s trying to push her to have a pass with a backward element to save some composition deductions? Those passes are weak for L10 and will...
Asking a 3, 4, 5 yo to train 9 hours/week is absurd. She has plenty of time to foster her talent. She would be training for 2 years before she could compete! How will she feel when all her teammates come back from a meet taking sky the fun, the meet gifts (especially if they all wear the meet...
Talk to your supervisor. I’m sure they would let you come in and shadow and double spot things to learn more. Be willing to spend your own money to attend things like Congress (they have hands in spotting lectures), etc. I love it when my staff asks to learn and improve. You can also use the...
Also look at Exxcel in Newton. They have a very positive environment and great coaches. If you live in Newton- all of the gyms you listed would be a LONG drive in rush hour.
I agree there cops have been better communication. However- using the words “red flag” is a little much.
The best training/progression is to have skills in one level above where you are competing. That way the gymnastics is always working in a forward progression.. if kids compete in a level...
The owner is right about liability. Even if you get a rider for the liability policy- there are multiple insurances needed for gyms- abuse & molestation, accident & medical, and workman’s comp - and more. If a coach not on that host gyms payroll gets hurt- they are not covered by workman’s...
It’s important to follow the rules. I’m sure many kids have not and no one noticed, but our state recently really started checking bc we had people doing that. Those kids could not do states that year and it was on the gyms for not following the rules.
I have a different opinion about Level
2 and Bronze! I think both are great levels. We have our preteam do low hours (1.5/week) bc we tend to have very young pre-teamers. Doing L2 or Bronze introduces competing and you can step up the hours only a little bit from pre-team so it’s more gradual...
Interesting idea how they structured the classes. It’s a great business model- getting people to come more & pay more- but it’s not the standard model for athlete development- and I have been around a long time! Good luck with things! Try not to assume the new gym is doing wrong by your...
Go on the R6 Website. Under regionals it has the start lists for the whole weekend with everyone’s age groups. You can look up each athletes scores just to get an idea- that’s is what we coaches do! Lol. I routinely recommend your gymnast do this though- it could stress her out.
Did you register/pay for your entry? If so the leotards would be given to your club most likely. You would want to make sure a new gym was accepting new team members right now as is still regionals/ Easterns/nationals season.
It’s hard to tell, but the issue could definitely come from a lack of shoulder flexibility. She also bends her knees really early and kind of buckles/rolls into the skill instead of jumping through her legs/feet. It would be a good idea to go back to basics relearn this skill.
It sounds like maybe the coach was not expecting your question; maybe they said it a little bit insensitively bc they were surprised? I’m not sure if you asked off the cuff or it was a planned meeting- that makes a difference. It takes a lot of practice & confidence to talk to parents! I had a...
