    Parents Privates

At dd gym privates are done but its usually suggested by a coach if there is skill that needs more work. My dd would gladly go to privates but I tell her unless a coach suggests to me she won't be doing any. She doesn't understand its actually a good thing not to be going for privates, that it...

    Parents what is the goal?

My dd has dreams of being a d1 college gymnast for the long term and her short term goals are always skill oriented. She has a goal of not repeating any compulsory levels. She's currently level 4, 8 y.old. My goal is to keep being in the position that we as a family can continue to afford...

    WAG Issue with "Name"

Some of the situations that I read that people have experienced when they are paying customers at a gym amazes me. So glad dd has never had a coach like that. My daughter's name and nickname are both unusual. Most people dont even know her nickname is not her real name and it is also what is...

    Parents Confession time- who's Dd's have extra Leo's? :)

Dd has 15 that fit now plus competition. She has her favorites but I save all of them when she outgrows them. Grandma is going to turn them into quilt blocks and make her quilt out of them.

Parents How old was your child when you knew you had a gymnast?

Dd started walking at 8 months and would climb on everything. She started rec @3.5 and was put in preteam pretty quickly. She was also in soccer but she literally wouldn't stop doing cartwheels during her games. She said my brain tells me to do it. We stopped soccer and now she is 8 and a...

Parents How often does your gym provide feedback?

When dd was preteam coaches handed out a report sheet that listed all the skills and then whether they were mastered or not complete with a note next to anything that still needs worked on. That was once per year. I used to worry about all the skills and whether she had this or that. Then I...

Parents How often does your gym provide feedback?

At dd gym no news is good news. I don't talk to the coaches beyond pleasantries. They are available by email and offer conferences in the spring. I never hear from them so my dd is doing as expected. I used to want feedback more often when I had to stay at practice due to commute when dd...

Parents Do you do anything to help pay for your gymnast's "habit"?

I work full time and my husband works full time and a part time job also. That helps to cover gym costs.

    Parents Practice meet

Dd (level 4) had her practice meet yesterday to start the season. It was so good to see all the hard work dd and all her teammates have been putting in all summer pay off with great routines. I never watch practice so I'm always surprised how far skills have come since the end of last season...

Parents How far do you travel to your gym?

20-25 minutes each way but I only have to drive one way thanks to car pool, 4 days per week. Love car pooling!

Parents Time to check out other gyms?

Good for your dd, it takes bravery to leave the familiar best of luck for her upcoming season.

    Parents Leotard costs

My dd competition Leo is $126, I am hoping that she will fit last years but I am afraid by fall it might now. At least I don't have to replace warm up. One thing our gym does is you can buy just the pants or just the jacket so that saves a little $. Any amount helps in this sport :-)
