Our pre-team does L2 skills/routines. They compete, but only in an exhibition type meet, judged by competition team girls.
Our comp team starts at L2 and they compete in front of judges but they get ribbons instead of scores. Scoring from judges starts at L3. Not sure if that is USAG wide...
were you registered as one of their "first dibs" groups, or were you just as a "competitive gymnast"? From what I saw on their site registration priority is given to certain groups and then other gymnasts are allowed to register from a wait list if there is room.

Can someone explain what TOPS is for a new gym mom? I Googled it, but it doesn't really explain what it is, only talks about the process of the testing.
Most gyms in my area require gymnastics to be the only sport/activity. Our gym lets them do other activities so long as they still make it all required practices.

I feel much better now, thanks. I was a bit embarrassed. My DD however was on cloud 9. It was a meet at our gym and I was working proscore system for the rest of the day and she stayed with me to help volunteer and was running on adrenaline the whole rest of the day, literally bouncing all over :)
