There's only one main reason why it would hurt so bad: you're landing on flat feet.
With round offs, you need to land toe to heel. Not on your toes like some people think when they here toe to heel, but in that motion. It will limit the hard impact on your heels which is probably causing the pain!
Hello again everyone.
Lately, I've been having some issues with my back. I'm a second year level nine gymnast, and I do some intense skills now. However, my lower left side of my back has been hurting so bad recently I had issues sitting in school. When I go to the gym, it's worse. Especially...
I know where you're coming from, believe me. I'm actually helping a level 7 overcome that fear as we speak at my gym. Cast handstands are tricky to get, but easy to keep. Couple things to keep in mind:
1- Yes, you will need to lean your shoulders over the bar to where you're uncomfortable...
That's a good idea, but I would suggest investing in a front tuck front tuck/ front layout front tuck pass. not only is it consistent, you can add on to it as you move up levels! I suggest a round off backhandspring half for the back pass too. Fly spring is a good idea, but they are very very...
What type of passes? Back or front? The lovely thing about optionals is the amount of options you have, especially on floor. For level 8, I have a few ideas.
Back-
Round off back handspring layout/half/full
Round off layout/half/full
Front tuck round off layout
Round off whip back tuck/layout...
Back problems are a problem within themselves. I have 2 cracked vertebrate along with numerous off center joints etc. With back pain, it's all up to the gymnast. She knows when the pain is bad and when it's not. However, continuing on the pain can only lead to greater problems. The best thing to...
This is a yes and no type answer. Normally, when you're on the beam, common sense tells you to do everything in your power not to fall. However, especially for optionals, a bobble/wild thrashing of the arms is not only .3-.6 tenths, but a lost connection in most occasions, which is tenths off...
Sadly, when it comes to these, my best bit if advice would be: Open when you feel uncomfortably early. THATS when you know. I'm a level nine gymnast currently, and my high bar has a clear hip to handstand into a giant giant toe on toe off dismount. Some good drills would be having your coach...
I think every gymnast has wanted to quit once in their experiences. I can't tell if I do or I don't. It seems like every time I'm close to quitting, I have a really good practice that makes me not want to. I'm 15, and a second year level nine. Last year I was injured all season, and didn't get...
I have used buckle grips most of my gymnastics career. I started with Velcro as a lower level, but as I began in the higher levels (8,9) I realized buckle was safer because they moved less. Velcro needs constant adjusting, but buckle require some serious effort to get them to the appropriate...
I feel you! I'm a 10th grader, a level 9, and I train about 5 days a week. I stayed up until about 1 in the morning as a freshman (As I was not used to the workload) before I created a little routine I do to minimize homework. I'm taking 3 AP classes, not to mention extracurricular clubs/church...
