I saw a post on here that had a great conditioning "game" that I think would help this girl out.
The coach who posted it called it "can I stop yet?"
The girls are all given a conditioning skill to do as a group (ie: plank hold), and you watch for form. As the gymnast tires and is no longer...
I for sure agree with the idea of progressive strength training. This concept makes a lot of sense and I am sure will help me keep the girls enjoying what I ask them to do if they can see the progress.
Coachmolly, my class is going to be most likely 8-14 year olds, so they are not super young...
I love the idea of the team conditioning contest on bars! That just sounds so fun!
I also really like the 1000 point conditioning system but my worry would be that they would cheat or lose form. I guess if I was watching closely and could control that it would be very effective.
I am from...
I found sand paper worked wonders for my grips when I was working them in. Just rubbing against the grain, and anywhere the grips rubbed my hands bad helped smooth them out, and I found they were much less slippery after. I also suggest alot of water and chalk, as well as rolling the grips...
I am looking for some ideas about how to make conditioning more enjoyable for my gymnasts.
I teach a competitive class that has the equivalent of level 3-4 skills from the USA program. My girls train 5 hours a week, and will be starting up again in about 2 weeks after having the entire summer...
Thanks everyone for the advise! It was much appreciated.
For the time being I'm going to stick with open gym, and then this summer I will work on my cardio, strength and flexibility. I will see how I feel come September when the new season begins.
Im glad to hear that I'm not the only one in...
Recently I have began to really miss doing gymnastics. I quit 4 years ago after an injury and since then have taken up coaching.
I still goof around at the gym, doing old skills, and even go to open gym every once and a while but I really miss the structure of a class, and competing.
The...
Thanks everyone for the input! I'll try out these drills on monday with them, and let you know how it goes!
If anyone else has any other ideas It would be greatly appreciated!
I am a gymnastics coach in Canada, and this year our routines changed for the beginner Level (compareable to Level 3 /4 from the USA). The shoot through has been incorperated in the bar routine, and I am having a really hard time getting my girls get over the fear of this skill.
I have never...
Thanks for the help everyone. I tried some of the drills you suggested, and the problems are slowly being resolved. Only 4 more practices before their first competition... Wish us luck!
As for the incline mat, we only have one. We are a really small club that runs out of a school gymnasium, so we are limited to how much equiptment we can own because we set up, and take it down every class, and store it in a small storage room. I will have to get creative with that one. The...
I teach a beginner competitive class, and in their routine they need to be able to do the connection back pike to tuck- tuck to straddle roll (i really hope that makes sense). Its basically two rolls connected, but I'm having a huge problem with a few of my gymnastics going over thier shoulders...
Oh and one more thing. I would never teach a 5 year a bridge kickover, or donkey kick on the beam. They are to young, and most do not have the required upper body strength to do those moves safely. If you are concerned about anything your childrens instructor is teaching them, just talk to them...
Preschool gymnastics
3 year olds:
Floor: - bridges, teddybear stands, handstands (put hands on ground and kick so both legs are off the ground), forwards rolls down incline, tuck jumps, straight jumps, star jumps. I make the kids walk like various animals across the floor (Tall giraffes...
I am a new coach, and i'm having a really tough time teaching my beginner class how to hurdle properly before jumping off the springboard. Most of them can do it proper if they are not running and doing it in slow steps, but as soon as they try and jump off the spring board it all goes wrong...
