Also, I feel like I still have a tendency to try and grab my legs like I would in a double tuck or pike, so I'm not fully utilising my arms to help me maintain the arch position by pressing them backwards enough, if that makes sense. Will work on that too!
Thanks! The dish shape is so engrained in me from single somersaults that I find the arch less natural, but I guess it's just a matter of repetition until it gets easier. Thanks:)
Hi everyone,
I'm new to double straights and am struggling a bit with the shape (see video attached) as I'm not hitting the slight arch shape that is typical of the skill. I train mostly in adult open gyms these days after getting back into the sport for fun and fitness, but the double straight...
Thank you - I appreciate your advice here! Sorry for the delay in responding.
I am finding that the more they soften, the more they are moulding into the correct shape, meaning that they're sitting in place better, rather than the stiffness of the leather forcing it to shift. I tried some...
Thanks for your reply, and apologies for the delay in responding! I feel like I'm getting more used to them now, and the more they're being broken in, the less the guards are shifting because they're moulding into shape better. Thanks for your advice - I may still invest in a better pair of...
Hi everyone - maybe you can help me with my predicament...🥹😆
I've been out of the sport for 7+ years and am having fun doing some training again as an adult 😁 My old handguards/grips are pretty badly stretched and so I decided to invest in a new pair. I went with Reisport double buckle grips...
Thank you, that's very helpful! When did they introduce the new rules about when to split in a sideways facing straddle or split 1/2? Was it first introduced in the current code of points? I'd be interested in finding the details of that. Thanks again :)
Thanks, I've just checked and you're right! Plus someone in the Youtube comments gave a break down of the D-score, assigning the straddle as a C as expected. Just strange I can't find it in the code of points, unless I'm being blind! Thanks again :)
Back when I was still competing 8+ years ago a straddle jump sideways on the beam was rated as a C element (if I remember correctly). I've just had a look through the latest code of points, and I can't even see it as a listed skill anymore (only a straddle jump in the cross beam position...
Hi everyone!
I have come back to gymnastics as an adult (having so much fun with it too despite the many challenges haha!), and am thinking I might invest in a new pair of handguards/grips for bars as the ones I currently have are over 10 years old 😆 Just wondered if anyone could tell me their...
