Parents Held back due to age

Since she's 4, I'd 100% want to stay on pre-team. No reason to start competing that young. She has so much time ahead of her!

Parents Held back due to age

How old is your daughter, and what level does your gym start competing at? Gyms make decisions for many reasons, the only thing that suprises me here is how the gym told you, that seems a bit odd, as there is a lot more than just "skills" that can lead to moving up - form, maturity, etc.

WAG Girls moving to different groups

Very common...I am luckily at a small gym, so some of our levels and coaching is combined, so the girls stay together longer than they would at a large gym. As an example, if I look at the group of girls that started with my daughter years ago....there was about 16 girls. Currently about six of...

    Parents Easterns warm up question

At our regionals, it varies how the coaches in the group agree to approach it at each event.

Parents Team summer practice and being a working parent.

My husband is a stay at home dad, and he assists with transportation for several teammates during the summer training schedule.. sometimes a teammate is dropped off on her parent's way to work, or we pick up from their house as needed, etc. Always seems to be an extra kid or two when I get home...

    Coaches Usag certs and compensation

While it might not be a legal requirement, its just good business to pay an hourly employee for their time, completing a required cert. I don't think the savings is worth having disgruntled employees! Coaches get payed little as it is, for all they do.

    Parents Booster Club Distribution Opt-Out?

Yes, please check with the tax laws to do it the right way, but a family CAN voluntarily opt out of booster distributions.

    WAG Average age per level?

Old thread brought back to life! (think its important to remember levels adjusted some sine the OP posted in 2015). Our gym is very "open" with age and we have a pretty big range: Level 2 - 5 to 10 Silver/3 - 6 to 11 Gold/4 - 6 to 12 Platinum/6/7 - 8 to 15 Diamond/8/9 10 to 15 10 - 16 and up

Parents 3 hour practices for 5 year old

My daughter started 3 hr proctices at 5, and she adjusted fine. She, however, is homeschooled so is able to have a break between school and gym. The kids I saw have trouble were mainly the young kids still getting used to a full day of school then having to go from school directly to gym...

WAG How many hours do you train per week for Xcel?

Our gym often uses xcel as an alternate path to optionals, our hours for silver are 6 per week, 8.5 for Gold, and 13 for Platiunum.

    Gymnasts cartwheel on beam

My daughter had big challenges her whole gold year with her cartwheel...only landed it in three comps out of 7. But over that next summer it clicked, and now she can do it easily. The next year it was her Roundoff....in her Platinum season, she nailed her cartwheel (part of her dismount series)...

    WAG State to Regionals

Depends on your region and the qualification policy. In my region, the score is set for regionals and if you get it at State Meet (or if you pre qualified, if your level allows that), you are in. So everyone at my gym knew as soon as they completed states this weekend, which is good, as our...

    Parents Extended Family Attending Meets

Your daughter's wishes should come first. Just let your family know that she gets nervous with family watching and has asked to keep it to immediate family. My daughter gets very nervous with her family there, so we only have one of us at each meet (usually me, sometimes her dad). If family...

Parents Late start to Level 10

I am going to be honest here, the number of athletes that make it to D1 is extremely small, and the group that make it past that is even smaller. I would suggest you enjoy your daughter's journey, whatever it will be. My daughter is ten and has been in the sport since she was 11 months (mom and...
