Parents Advice needed on new skills

Hi Need some advice from this group regarding my daughter's new skills. She is currently in level 8 and is still learning the skills for this level. I feel strongly that she should have mastered the skill (or at a minimum been able to complete each event) before meet season started. As a result...

    New Skills!

I got my round off back tuck last summer at a summer gymnastics camp. When I got back to my home gym, the floor was different so I lost my round off back tuck for a few months. I recently got it back probably around beginning of September... my coaches told me I need to do round off back...

WAG Do college gymnasts learn new skills?

Do college gymnasts learn new skills or do they just maintain the skills they already have. And if they don't learn new skills does it get boring?

WAG After the competition season ends...how long before your gym starts training new skills?

It seems our gym takes FOREVER to start training (regularly) on new skills. DD has done level 9 for the last two years, made it to Regionals both times but not Easterns.... She is not a fan of level 9 (lol) and is ready to push past this and feels the gym isn't aggressive enough..... Just...

WAG New skills versus perfecting skills

At what point in your level 10 gymnast career did she stop acquiring new and more difficult skills and start perfecting existing skills? (Assuming start value of 10 on all events) Seems it is very difficult to hit those really high scores if every year you are competing new skills.

Parents Quick Brag! Two new skills in one day!

So now that regionals is done, "summer" up training is happening in our gym right now. I picked DD up today and she was grinning from ear to ear. She told me that she got her KIP today (she's been so close for a while lol) and also her round off back handspring back tuck on the floor! She is...

WAG New skills and Masters competition

I haven't posted in ages but I have some exciting news to share. I've decided to compete Masters this year, three years after retiring! My question is about skill expectations, mainly on bars. Now that the code has changed and routines are compulsory up to Level 5 I would really like to aim to...

WAG kids try new skills on their own - should I forbid it? And weird progressions in my L6 girls...

As you might know already, I am coaching some L6 girls at the moment. They started Layouts already and we worked on them today. Sometimes they do well, but often it looks much more like a whip. Today I went over the body shape for layouts once again and showed them some drills. The girls...

WAG Several new skills in one day after months of nothing, weird

My daughter, age 8 and level 2 just randomly decided to acquire new skills today. The strange thing is, it happened at home on the grass, at a birthday party with no one really paying attention. She got her back walkover, front limber, and on the trampoline front tuck to a stand. These are all...

WAG New Skills (Tsuk, Giant & Back Handspring)

So, Dd went to Flip Fest (week 2). This was her VERY first away camp. And though she was a little home sick in the beginning, she enjoyed herself. But what she enjoyed most was learning new skills. The guest this week were Svetlana Boguinskaia (she's super funny and I love that she worked w/ the...

    New Skills

Just thought I'd get some discussion going on. :) What new skills are you guys working on? I'm trying to get my back twisting on floor back, a handspring tuck series on beam, bail handstand on bars, shaposh drills on bars, and a layout yurchenko. There's others, but lets leave it at that for now.

    WAG What new skills?

Now that the season is winding down for most of us I was wondering what new skills your DD or DS is looking forward to learning next? Mine is looking forward to learning some twisting on the floor and a new vault! I am not sure I am read for a new vault though

    My new skills!!!!!!

Last night at gymnastics I had a rough but good night!! I managed to do on floor round off back handspring layout-which I always have problems with-I usually stop right after the back handspring... On vault I managed to do round off full turn-with one mini tramp-I usually use 2 as I get bad...

    WAG New skills

If a gymnast gets a skill named after them do they have to wait 4 years till the new CoP to come out? And why was the liukin taken out of th code? A few examples of new skills are the TTY(maroney) or DTDL(moors)

    Parents new skills

Hi My son is 8 and has been doing gym for 3 years. He is having a problem with tumbling. His coach seems frustrated that he cant get the straight front somersault, he is also having problems with back and front summies. In general he keeps up with his peers and has very good form with above...

WAG WAG: Uptraining and New Skills

Since the boys' side has this thread, I thought maybe the girls' side should have one too. DD is still 3 weeks out from States, so there's still a lot of time spent on routines, etc. But, after about a year of beginning Yurchenko training, DD finally got to move the training to the table. On...

MAG Uptraining and new skills excitement!

With regionals soon, and some uptraining already started, I thought we could have a happy thread for it!! Yesterday, my older son was really excited to do a kip on the pbars....on the first try. Today, my younger son(preteam) earned a shamrock shake by getting his first unassisted pullover...

Parents the positives....seeing huge smiles after new skills!

With two kids in gymnastics (DD just turned 7 and DS soon to be 9) it often gets crazy with the meets all year, practices, packing snacks and so on--you guys get it, but seriously, the huge smile on my DD's face last night when she made her long hang kip for the first time makes it all worth it...
