Hi everyone!
I'm hoping to compete at the AAU Age Group Nationals and Junior Olympic Games next year (I know, it's a while off, but I need the year for progressing!) but I haven't competed since I was level 4! I took some years off, needless to say.
Anyways I see that there is an Intermediate Optional level for Ladies (I'll be 23 during those meets) and it seems like my best bet. Looks like you can only do A and B skills with a few requirements, so this seems very doable for me. I quit gymnastics when I was a level 4/5 about 12 or 13, now I'm 22 and have been doing gym again since around March. I actually made my triumphant return back in December/January but then immediately broke my ankle....lol
The official Intermediate Optional rules are here - http://image.aausports.org/handbooks/gymnastics/GYHandbook-girls.pdf on page 8)
Now, I don't really know what A skills are and B skills, so could anyone help me kind of piece together a routine(s)? I'll ask my coach too, I just do an adult class once a week, but just for informations sake any replies would be really helpful. Has anyone else competed this level before, or at these meets? Any info would be great!
Here are some skills I can do, if this is helpful:
Floor:
Front punch
split leap
working on switch leap
Roundoff BHS, can do multiple BHS
almost RO BHS Back Tuck by myself
front handspring
front/back walkover
working arabian onto a mat off the tumbl trak
can do back and front layout half off a tramp
working back layout full off a tramp
Bars:
pullover
front hip circle
back hip circle
cast squat-on, jump to HB fairly consistent
working flyaways into the pit
working on kips
Beam:
can do simple jumps
full turn semi-consistently
cartwheel semi-consistently
Vault:
have done a few front handsprings into a pit but not onto a mat since I was about 11 or 12!
So, what are the most important upgrades I should be focusing on?
My short term and long term goals are: back extension roll to handstand; ro bhs back tuck by myself (should have it very soon), kip, and standing back tuck on floor. My most long term goal is to be able to compete AA at those meets
THANK YOU!!!
