Today at gym a boy was doing fit 'n' fun (he isn't gymnast) and he kept his knees together when doing a front tuck and his knee hit his chin and knocked his front tooth through his lip (he now has a hole in his lip with his tooth through it) :/ what are some accidents that have happened at your gym? :)

a girl bailed on a RO-BHS-BT and was taken to hospital told nothing was wrong and 5 months later it still hurt and got it checked out and it was fractured

A girl fell of beam and completely disconnected all the ligaments in her foot practically

and thats all i can think of atm

A girl was doing her giant fly away and held on to long. She came down on the bar and hurt her elbow so bad she needed surgery and pin to hold it in place.

Another girl was doing a double back and was taken out on a stretcher because she landed on her head.

That's it in the 2 years we've been there.

One of the many reasons why we left the old gym.... DD and her group were being taught (and I use that loosely) the dismount for Level 3 bars. The coach (again use the term loosely) demonstrated and then set the girls in motion on a circuit of bars activities (approx 6 girls- all age 5). Coach spotted another bars skill on another apparatus and girl #1 goes to try the dismount move--- UNSPOTTED- there was no spotter for it and the girls had never tried it before. Girl #1 files up over the bar and does not fall/land in a safe manner- landed on her hands-- breaking BOTH wrists. Needless to say that was the straw that broke the camels back for me with that gym-- we left within a month. IMO when you are teaching a new- difficult skill to 5 years olds- or any child for that matter- you need a SPOTTER!!!!

i forgot to mention the girl who hurt her ankle needed surgery and is in plaster for 5-6 weeks (4 left now)

and the on the RO-BHS-BT bail she landed on her neck and fractured her back

and Jess if your worried about the skater's hole in his lip don't be because my dad did the same thing when he was little and just got it stitched up

sorry for not being more clear before

lol those would have hurt and no im not it just looked gross!! haha!! my coach had to deal with it when she should have been at home studying for her next exam (shes in yr 12) lol and i remembered another one!! an elite boy at our gym (i didn't see this i got told) was doing vault and landed on his neck (this wasn't from lack of spotting as he has done this vault tons) but ouch that would have hurt i don't know what happened after that :/ it just shows how dangerous this sport really is :/

I find that most accidents that i have seen/experienced are never from a new skill that is being spotted at least not in my gym because i tore a ligament doing a split leap on floor, broke a toe doing a full turn, got knocked out skiing on a traverse (flat section - i could do that when i was 3) my friend RO-BHS-BT for months and could do it with her eyes closed (not that she would try that) My friend tore her ligament doing full turn on beam etc

Basically often its the skills you have done for ages that you injure yourself on

Last week a girl on my team was swinging on the high bar, accidentally let go on her back swing, flew over the low bar and hit her knee against her nose and eye. And about two years ago, they had just redone the pit so there wasn't enough foam in it yet and my team was doing relay races into the pit and my friend hit the hard bottom of the pit and broke her ankle.
